Further, It is also assumed that the reader know to always start with a slug that is properly SIZED for his/her barrel, Which is to say 1 or 2 thousandths OVER the groove to groove diameter of a soft, round slug of lead pushed thru the barrel with lots of oil and grease. Saying "groove to groove" is a fancy way of saying to measure the maximum O.D. of the slug.

If I understand you, after measuring the projectile used to slug your barrel, choose a slug 1 to 2 thousands over that measurement. Say the pushed slug mic's .216, then maybe a .217 to .218 slug "might" be a good starting point.

Yes, that would be a good place to start, a couple thousands over the largest diameter you can measure on that slug. Most likely, if you are casting the slugs yourself, you will size the slugs using a properly made sizing die.
