Iron sight PCP advice.

25% off Benjamin Maximus with the parts department Challenger trigger group with a credit card-gift card shim spacer and a TKO with a fiber optic 12ga shotgun front sight Or glue one onto the TKO.

Maintain your 5 year warranty by keeping the factory crappy trigger group somewhere safe and unmodified-untouched.

If you're handy the ATI Nova Vista Liberty (Avenger regulated daddy) is $100 in the returns section at ATI that you fix yourself they have iron sights. Probably a leak and valve seal issue most common issue maybe you get lucky and it's only the manometer needing to add some Teflon tape to the threads then done.

Of the three choices given I’d also choose the Maximus for the same reasons stated already and with a few more reasons of my own. I’m also bias and partial to Crosman guns as I have a lot of them already but not the Maximus (yet). I would however add that I know what I’d be getting by choosing the Maximus and I would not choose the Maximus without intentions of paying the additional cost to upgrade the trigger to the Challenger trigger, adding a TKO and scope and possibly a few other widgets and gizmos. With that said for the same cost as a Maximus and upgrades, a lot more gun can be had straight out of the box these days.

My Maximus is the go to squirrel gun protecting the urban home mini orchard

Accurate. light weight, well balanced, and easy to fill with a hand pump.

If you ever wish to make mods the parts are inexpensive the forum knowledge extensive & easily accessible.

AND

I would buy the AHEM! threaded barreled 22 Maximus Hunter for $164.99 direct from Crosman with 25% AGNATION code on Free Shipping Friday that has a 6x40AO fixed power Centerpoint scope with scope mounts but no biggie keep it or use it but hold onto in case 5 YEAR WARRANTY requires it to be sent back with gun. I would also order a couple of the Challenger trigger groups one for each gun you have.

Excellent find!

That's a great deal from Crosman using the forum's 25% discount.

Certainly one that I was not aware of.

However The OP, DonC, has specified Iron Sights, and there are none on the Maximus Hunter

That version at Crosman is out of stock, unfortunately

PS

But, if you are suggesting my buying the squirrels a Maximus Hunter, that would please them no end

They then would then have a tactical advantage over my peep sights

No unfortunately you’ll have to install the Challenger trigger yourself. It’s very easy to do though. It does require a shim between the tube and trigger group. Guys make them out of old credit cards or gift cards. Plastic cut from milk jugs might also work. If you’re unsure about that, another option is you can order the trigger from here and it’ll come with a metal shim.

here’s a video how’s its done.

The great thing about upgrading the trigger on a Maximus or Discovery is that you do not need to do it right away.

The stock trigger is a bit clunky, but certainly not unusable.

IMO, if getting a Maximus, shoot it for awhile before upgrading

The only thing done to mine is polishing the contact parts.

I've not even gotten to the "2 screw mod" or installing a lighter trigger spring.yet; & am OK with it.

Most certainly the aftermarket & upgraded triggers are a vast improvement over stock

However they're not needed from Day 1

Just my too sens

The 80-90 yards Maximus shooting wasn't with open sights. I had an MTC Viper Pro 5-30x50 before taking it off to use on a Crosman 1377 pumper carbine conversion besides that MTC scope was REALLY JUNK and so I replaced it with a Leupold 6.5-20x40AO EFR much much much better night and day difference... Here's what it looks like now. The Leupold scope is guaranteed to make the Maximus shoot more accurate at long range.

It's on sale at DVOR for only $599. Most other places sells it for $749 and the scope cost $974.99 direct from from Leupold. I would personally recommend the Leupold 6.5-20x40AO EFR to anyone as a good reliable nice scope that has good clear glass that has a Lifetime warranty too.
