My quick thought is , by pushing the pellet through with the cleaning rod does the pellet rotate in the same fashion? Additionally does the rod method produce lateral pressures on the pellet which otherwise would not be there? Final thought does the pellet diameter affect these findings? Eg. Size 5.51, 5.52, 5.53 and 5.54. These sizes are all available from JSB.
