FX Interesting find with Orior magazine for Crown

Ok, I know I'm crazy, but here goes. I bought a mini Orion mag in 177 for my Crown. With a 500mm barrel with 0db 110C moderator on (only barrel I've tried so far with the Orion), the rifle has a funny, somewhat louder crack when fired. Nothing objectionable, but quite noticeable. Replace the Orion with a factory mag and the rifle is near silent.

What in the world does a magazine have to do with the report of the rifle????? I tried to record it, but it doesn't record well and it's not a big deal at all, but the rifle is somewhat louder. Go figure?

Hi,
Just a thought - perhaps the magazine is preventing you from fully seating the pellet in the liner. The noise you hear would be the rush of air that gets around the pellet before it starts to move. The velocity of the air, released at 100 bar, would be really, really fast and would make a lot of noise leaving the barrel. It happens so fast that you might not see a difference on your chronograph.

Cheers,
Greg

Oh wow, this very interesting, I have an idea of what is happening but I'm really not sure it's the case, here is my theory:

I think the magazine might be amplifying the noise like an acoustic guitar, the difference in material from the OEM magazine is why you see less noise from the OEM.

To test my theory add some painters tape on the bottom of the magazine to see if the extra material will stop the vibration and reduce the noise.

I haven't noticed this but I haven't pay attention to this phenomenon.

Also it might not happen all the time, it's possible my magazine will amplify more specific sound, maybe it will react more with a specific resonance.

You have definitely found something very interesting.

Lol
