As per the last thread, I picked up a second hand FX Wildcat in .177. Right off the bat it was shooting a shotgun pattern at 20 yards. All of that rant can be found here . So, it was time to Tune and Repair, or at least try. I have never tried to take apart a PCP, dark unknown territory to me. To @fx-usa credit, they have done a great job of posting the Masterclass. However, I only used these videos as a bit of a refresher course. @BigRagu came to the rescue. I will tell you what, this man knows his Wildcats inside and out. In the end, while the gun is not shooting to my standards, it is shooting much much better than it was before he intervened. If you need a Wildcat tuned, I would send him a PM for sure.
So, the FX regulator was creeping all over the place. That got promptly replaced with a Huma HP reg. All pertinent O-rings were changed. The liner was indexed and polished. I don't have before pictures, but the groups were at least 3 to 4 inches spread over 8 shots. I'm getting like 3/4" or less with an occasional flyer. We installed a small plenum at the end of the tube, but unfortunately it was leaking pretty bad and had to remove it. I did get the leak a bit under control by using a bit of teflon, but did not get desired results at the time by using it. I removed it as it still had a small leak.
I intend to work on it a little more. Thinking about installing a gauge on the side to monitor the regulator pressure. If/when I can get a plenum that is working to spec, I may go ahead and try that again. The other thing that I am hoping for is that FX finally releases the much talked about Superior liner, and that it actually. works.
10-11-20: OK, Delta has been keeping us in the South rather moist, but I did not let that stop me from doing what I could. As noted above, I took gun apart, yet again sigh..., re-installed the plenum, up'd the reg to 120, and opened up the TP a bit. Right off the bat I had to remove the plenum again, huge fail as noted previously, it leaks all over the place no matter what I do. So, plenum removed, everything else as noted. Filled gun and did some shooting this fine morning through the rain. Looking way better.
10-13-20: shooting session after the last fairly happy one....is a bust! So, gonna give this a go and see. Should be dry by tomorrow. Also backed down the reg to 110, I think the hammer spring isn’t strong enough for 120 as speeds suffered.
To be continued....
