Installing Pic Rail in RAW Laminate Stock

They are rigid enough for benchrest shooting.

run arround playing Rambo, I doubt they will manage that abuse

;)

I'm guessing it should be fine. Found a video that @AEAC made a little while back at their factory. Not at all trying to pull a Rambo, rather precision POI adjustment that is tougher to get repetition from a shooting bag (without having to tote a shooting vise in the field)..

There's one problem I experienced years back doing a custom 10/22. I started to drill pilot holes for the screws, I had the drill bit walk into the softer laminated wood slightly off center. I ended up using a large forstner bit with the stock clamped to the table. This created a deeper starter hole. I used a larger longer screw than I originally figured on along with a larger pilot hole.

Got a woodworking shop in town? Expensive gun and stock and I'd err on the side of doing it right. I did the exact same thing to a synth stock a few years ago. I was very careful but always wished I had had done a little differently.

My suggestion... find a shop that will do the drilling in a solid jig/vise with a very good bench type drill. THEN, (and you would probably have to do this part first unless the shop can help you) find a deep threaded insert and an appropriate rod and foot for the rod. If you use something like brass for the insert, it can be sanded to match the profile of the stock. To me, this is one mod that won't detract from value (might add to it) itfdone right. Screwing a pic rail to the bottom of the stock rarely looks good unless the stock is designed for it.

Just my thoughts based on stuff I failed at in the past.

I've been working with wood for over 30 years, just wasn't too sure about the RAW buttstock materials, having never seen or handled one before.
