Inaugural N50 BR Match in central OH, Oct 15th

Tim, these targets look pretty good. I read the product details, but did not see the ring diameters. Do you know where to find that information?

I am wondering how they compare to either EBR or RMAC dimensions/ ring size diameters. Also, will you score the proposed 2023 100 yard matches with a .035” scoring plug?

Thanks
Tom
Sorry for the delay Tom. Here are the targets to compare sizes and I also included Mike’s. The difference I see is that the EBR size targets have 3/8” spacing between rings while the IBS target is just a tad larger with 1/2” between rings.

Thanks for doing the measurements Tim. I’m going to order the red IBS Hunter targe pack for $22.99 ( quantity-100), and use these as practice 100 yard targets at my local outdoor range. That extra 1/8” will help!

Once I get rolling, and if weather cooperates, I’ll post some scores just so you have a reference point. I probably will post mainly Anschutz rim fire scores, as I don’t have high end slug air rifles. I will try the FX Boss .25 cal shooting 33g JSB MK2’s and the RAW and Safari HP .22 cals also.

Should be fun.

I've got some of the IBS red targets ordered too but it might be weeks or months before I can post any scores. Its moving into winter rapidly here and I am more of a fair weather shooter these days ;)
Just placed my order on Midway, arriving this week.

Me too on the warmer weather. Woke up to 23 degrees this morning and heading to range now. Bundled up!

I received my IBS ( Irritable Bowel Syndrome :)) targets last week and got a chance to shoot (3) cards today at 100 yards, at the local outdoor range. Beautiful weather, wind was light and varied between 1-2 and 1-5 mph at times, per my Kestrel. Had 2 flags out also. I used the Randolph front rest with the Protektor rear bag.

First up - Anschutz 1907 .22 LR without tuner ( Sportsman's Class ) - I forgot the darn tuner. However, it shot very well and I was very happy with the results. The larger targets in combination with the .035'' scoring plug, scored very well. Shot a 245 and a 246, but only 1X in all of that. Group sizes were between sub-MOA and MOA+. I shot the Eley Tenex and RWS 100 40G ammo. The RWS 100 shoots better and scoring groups were tighter, but man is this stuff expensive!

Next up: RAW HM1000X .22 HP shooting the JSB 25.39 RDs - ( Pellet Class ) Had a very tough time reading wind and it showed. I did not sort or size pellets, but used the FX Branded JSB MRD 25.39g. Shot a 214 using a front Tripod and rear bag ( protektor ).

Tim - I think your RF guys are going to like the 100 yard IBS targets with the generous .035" scoring plug. Any of the air rifles that can shoot close to 40G slugs will also do pretty well here I think. I will be posting more results with other guns over time.

Tom

Tim,

I did forget to mention that I shot 5 shots in a row per bull, vs. shooting one shot per bull and rotating to the next like they do in EBR or RMAC 100 yard competition formats. Next time out, I am going to try the 'rotation' method, which for me is always harder in obtaining scoring results.

Not sure how you plan to implement when you host the matches next year, but wanted to add that note for clarity.

I think I will allow competitors to shoot either way Tom because it would be very hard to police shooting 1 bull then transitioning to the next one because we would have to have a spotter on each competitor which wouldn’t be practical. I too struggle with maintaining the same level of accuracy when transitioning verses shooting groups as you mentioned above. Thanks for bringing this up as I had not considered that.

I totally agree, and here’s why:

Your local Ohio match is friendly, and you are trying to attract both RF and air rifle shooters to shoot 100 yards. The harder we make it for them, has a direct correlation to their enthusiasm. Letting them shoot 5 shots per bull is a good way to entice both groups to shoot at 100 yards.

Secondly, this is not RMAC or EBR, and RF is not allowed in those competitions. You are breaking new ground, and offering every advantage to get this off the ground is the way to proceed

Lastly, I think the RF guys will like this and the high end air rifles will do ok; but will struggle for 240+ scores at 100 yards.

Not sure how to equalize the disadvantage they have vs. high end RF with good ammo shooting 40g. I need to think about this…

Just my opinion…
