My Beeman R9 in .177 usually grouped crosman 7.9 hp into quarter inch or better groups at 30 feet indoors off rest. I have used several tins of these purchased from time to time over the past 2 years. However pellets from the last 4 tins scatter wildly producing 1.5 inch or worse in 3 shots. With H N field target trophy and JSB the rifle produced typical quarter in groups Has anyone else experienced this problem??

I find it increasingly difficult to find something positive to say about the quality of Crosman's pellets in recent years, but 1.5 inch 3-shot groups at 10 yards is a whole different dimension of awful.
Do they exhibit highly variable seating effort when you press them into the leade? Visibly pronounced parting lines or flashing? Voids or features that aren't fully formed? Pellets that bad should have some symptoms.

Could be the recent tins were from a different die. When they used to package the 7.9's in cardboard boxes, they would mark on the bottom which die the contents came from . I think there were several different dies being used at the time and everyone was after #4's.

Try scrubbing your barrel. I recently had this problem with their 14.3’s. I was about to do some major alterations to my gun when I just decided to clean the barrel. Things got much better. They are hard as a rock and can fowl a choke.

thanks for all the replies As stated earlier these used to shoot fairly well. The last 4 tins purchased at one time from Pyramyd Air present the problem. The bore has been scrubbed. My rifle shoots quarter inch or less groups with JSB or Field Target Trophy I did weight several pellets, and the weight didnt vary more than .2 grain. Some pellets drop in the breech others need to but pushed in, but crosman's were always like this, I tried them in my Hw 35 with identical results I still use Crosman 14.9 domed in my Weihrauch 95 and shoot well. Perhaps I just got 4 tine of a bad lot.

id mic em .. id say smallish diameter would affect that more than micro variations in weight.

I see that now with the new " air power" tin and packaging. Ya notice its no longer that proudly made in usa red white and blue tin of past.. im a think there now mostly imported like them sad essential pellets they tried to push.
Anyway i noticed id get a rash of not so good lately. Also i dont buy in bulk anymore . I just buy a tin or 2 at wallmart as needed . No point buying a brick and there the lemon pellets..

I had a tin of Crosman 10.5s that shot as well as H&N Baracudas in my P35-177. I shot exactly the same score (184 I think) on the 30 yard challenge with both pellets. So I bought more. The two new tins are MUCH worse. OK to dirty the barrel, maybe for plinking but certainly not for target shooting. I got curious so I bought a pellet gauge and checked the few pellets I had left from the old tin and the new tins. The "good" Crosman tin had head size similar to the H&N pellets and was about as consistent. The "bad" Crosman tins had head sizes covering the full range of openings in the pellet gauge. All over the place. No wonder they shoot poorly. I also found that H&N Match pellets were more consistent than H&N Baracuda or Baracuda Power pellets but their head size is not consistent with what it says on the tin. Still not sure which H&N pellets I want to stock up on but I know it isn't Crosmans. Might be the copper plated Power pellets. Their head size is not terribly consistent (but much better than the Crosmans) but they shoot really well. I have some sorted with consistent head size to test.
I also use Crosman 14.3s in my Prod sometimes but they do not shoot as well as H&N FTT copper plated. It does not like the unplated FTTs any better than the Crosmans but shoots the copper plated really well. I got that gun in 2020 so all the pellets have been purchased over the last couple years. thanks for the input I suspected that all along HN shoot extremely well in my rifle. JSB a very close second
