When I first hunted these woods, there wasn't a bird to be found in them. After pounding the squirrels hard for a few years, I noticed more and more birds in the woods. Now that's mostly what I notice, small birds. Red squirrels are detrimental to the small bird population. If they find their nests, say goodbye to the eggs and/or babies. That's primarily why I shoot them.

Hey Bob,

Just wondering, do you do anything with the red squirrels once you shoot them? I've heard of folks eating them...but there isn't a helluva lot of meat on them. Kinda like eating a chipmunk or filleting a smelt! I shoot the little jerks any chance I get and just leave them for "somebody else" to enjoy.
