Impact X .22 at 200 yards with pellets.

I shot some amazing groups last weekend at long range that blew my mind. I showed them to a couple of of buddies but said I wouldn't post them because it had to have been a fluke. There is just no way 18 grain pellets can stay together at that distance. Especially when you load them straight out of the tin unsorted and outdoors.

So I went out again this morning to recheck my Optimizer yardage marks and see if I could get lucky again before the morning wind kicked in.

Keep in mind the better groups were shot in near perfect conditions. I had wind flags and strings hanging and if they moved even slightly the groups opened up big time.

This group is from this morning. Just the slightest head breeze made them drop.

Then I went ahead and confirmed my 183 yard mark when the wind died for a minute. The low shot is from dropping off the reg. By the time I aired up the wind was back and the party was over.

I shoot in our clay pigeon ground which is an old quarry , I can hit old clays at 136 yards no problem and at the weekend 180 was the farthest I could hit from were I was placed , The pellet is the 21.14 Barracuda match at 908 fps .

Like you the slightest wind and its off , you did well at 200 yards the breeze in the quarry is a subtle bitch though . good idea on the wind indicators .

Very nice shooting swish. I dont think you will see your “no wind” groups improve, but those headwind issues will largely go away when you get the slugs.

I have also snuck out at dawn many times to beat the wind to get initial drop data. I think in the future though i will wait for that odd calm day, because my dawn shooting is always like 20 degrees too cold to be relevant to when i get shots at woodchucks.

My aerodynamic jump did not improve with slugs. Actually i think pellets handle it a little better because of skirt drag. I hit low in a left wind and high in a right if its 10 mph or more. About one moa at 150. At least its quantifiable.

I've been able to do a lot of side by side shooting at long range with .25 pellets and slugs. My Wildcat with pellets along side my friends Cricket with slugs.

We would aim at the same spot in windy conditions at 150 to 200 yards, count to 3 and shoot at the same time. It was usually inches vs feet is the best way I could describe it. So I'm really hoping for some big improvements. Just the overall consistency of the projectile should hopefully offer some gains.

Pcparmy, you've inspired to pay closer attention to spin drift and other factors that I've always writen off as wind. I'm going to try to train myself to keep better notes of all the variables.
