Impact Power Adjuster Problem (for the HotRodders out there)

Hey gang, I have a few questions about an FX Impact that I bought used last year. The story I got from the previous owner was that it started out life as a .30 cal. He sold it to me as a .25 and I later bought a .177 kit to try and eliminate some starlings at the dairy that I work at. It leaked a lot when I got it but a strip down and reseal fixed all that. One thing that I had to do was detune the power wheel adjuster screw. It was maxed out like in the video from Ernest Rowe. When I pulled the wheel off, I noticed why the manual says to not move the wheel when the gun is cocked. There was evidence of gouging inbetween the settings. I figured that was all that there was to it.
​ I pulled it off tonight to look a little closer and wonder what your collective minds think about these pictures. I know they are a little blurry, my iPhone doesn't focus that close. You can clearly see where the max setting is on the cam. There is a large and deep hole where the adjuster screw rests against it. In my opinion this has resulted from the hammer spring being maxed out and pushing the steel screw into the aluminum cam. If you look and the other settings, there is evidence of the same thing only less so, due to the less amount of hammer spring tension. If you look closely, you can see the inside of the cam where the minimum setting is super thin. The screw has pushed through the thin wall and is about to punch a hole clear through. I wonder if setting these guns up to shoot so hot, will end up causing more problems down the line.

​ This is a generation 1 Impact and I am trying to get it set up a little closer to factory settings.Does anyone know the measurement from the adjuster to the end of the cut out? I ask because in the troubleshooting guide, it says that the factory setting for the .177 is 20mm. I have set it at that and the screw doesn't even touch the cam until power setting 3, rendering min,1 and 2 useless. The troubleshooting guide shows an Impact where that cutout has been smoothed and chamfered and mine is just a milled line. Did they change the recommended length when they updated the model. (I know the calipers say 18mm, it is just to reference the difference in the slot.) Although with the damage on the wheel, I'm sure I'll have to add a few turns to get screw seated in the divots that it has created, or just use the lettered side as it is nearly untouched.

Hi Tyler. I have a first generation Impact also. Even being careful adjusting the power wheel and lubing it occasionally I’m on to my second wheel. I have shot my Impact a lot but even so would like to think this part wouldn’t wear out. I think what you have there is normal for a gun that’s been shot a lot.

Looks to me like a permanent one-time fix for this problem is to have machined a steel power wheel to replace the aluminum one. Either that or press an interference fit steel sleeve over it. Could also fit a "shoe" (cam follower) on the end of the adjuster screw so that it doesn't damage the wheel. If it were me, I'd contact Ernest and have him machine a new wheel out of steel.

Another thing for anyone who can get hold of an early Impact at the right price to consider is replacing the whole trigger block. 
2 worthwhile upgrades are in the trigger block. 
1 the new regulator with the longer piston 
2 A bush that holds a pin stable and improves the trigger. 
You could also choose a different colour if you wanted too. 
They where around $480 Australian dollars which is something like 25% less over there in the States.
