Impact: New 700mm barrel, no locking dimple for the setscrew.

I got a new barrel for my 'old' Impact.

There's no setscrew dimple for locking the barrel in place? Am I supposed to take a drill to this brand new $450 barrel?

That’s how they come now, there is an undercut so the mark left by the set screw won’t scratch the block.

+1 What he said and if you want the dimple yes you will have to drill it. Although I did not find it was needed.

They changed it with the introduction of the X barrel system. Potential issue can be that the old round screw that falls into the dimple doesn’t have enough traction to hold the new barrels in place, in my old Impact the new barrel slowly creeped forwards.

Krale send me the newer “X” screw for free when I mentioned this which solved the issue, you can also drill a dimple to make it work with the old screw.

The newer setscrew has a sharp edge, which will dig itself into the aluminium of the barrel., and hold it in place.

Stainless shoulder is thin thats why no resist for set screw, never had one back out even with hundreds of impact I tuned.
