Impact Mklll questions

Ok I know these questions are somewhat subjective and can be a matter of opinion but I’m interested in ideas and opinions other than my own.
I’m considering a MKlll compact for ease of handling and transport. Do you loose any accuracy or velocity/power with compact vs the longer barrel versions?
I’m trying to decide between .22 or .25 caliber. I’m shooting mostly sparrows, starlings, pigeons, and squirrels with maybe occasionally a close range groundhog. For the birds I’d like to go out to 100 yards.
I’m leaning towards the.22 because of cheaper ammo and because I have a variety of pellets already. I have an hw100 which I really like but about 50-60 yards it seems like it starts running out of power. I think with the Impact I could gain quite a bit of power with the.22 but I’m interested in what you guys think. Thanks

I think you might get more power but if the pellets are the same weight and fps is close to the same in the 2 guns its not the guns thats lacking power it might be to light of a pellet , I use 21g h&n pellets around 960 fps and I have plenty of power at 107 yards to slam squirrels I can here the impact when they hit

My opinion:
You are correct in the .22 caliber thought. They work well past 100 yards and there are many more options to choose from considering weights and diameters. The heavier the pellet, the better they seem to retain both accuracy and knock-down power at the longer ranges, but only with higher velocity as they slow down during their travel to the target. .25 caliber is also a good choice and should not be overlooked even though more expensive and with less options considering weight and diameter. You will likely use slightly more air with a .25 though.
However, with longer barrels, you can gain more velocity, so it's a matter if what you want. The smaller cylinder/bottle will also require filling more often as the shot count will obviously be less that a larger cylinder/bottle.

I didn’t explain very well. My HW100 is .22 but with 15.89 grain pellets I’m at about 850 fps and with 17.5 grain slugs I’m at about 760 fps. I think my gun is at full power. That’s why I’m considering an impact. So I can get more power out of the .22
if you are at full power then going to an impact would give you alot more power with faster fps and you can shoot heavier pellets or slugs

Longer barrels equal greater power, when all other factors are equal. You can get good power from a shorter barrel but you'll need higher reg. pressures and more hammer force to do it. Those setting will cause a lower shot count, but for most people that isn't an issue. 22 cal. or .177 is adequate for killing pest birds and you don't need that much power. UK shooters do it with sub-12 ft lb guns.
