Impact Mk2 shroud loose. Need help removing it.

I’ve got a brand new FX impact Mk2, in .22. The shroud is loose, like there’s no support near the front of the air-stripper that I assume is inside. It wobbles about 1/16” or more.

It doesn’t seem to be causing any issues, but doesn’t seem right, either. I assume there’s an o-ring on an air-stripper inside this thing that came loose.

Does anybody have any photographs or video of the inside of the shroud, or tips on how to remove it? All of the videos and posts I can find here are related to the old Mk 1 shrouds. It looks like I’ll need a pin spanner, unless somebody has any other tips. I’ve tried the obvious ways to get it off, and I’m thinking the threads are locked.

Also, can anyone tell me if the DonnyFL Impact shroud is a worthwhile upgrade on my rifle? Will it work on a Mk2?

Like t3pranch described the moderator slides over barrel tightly (must twist it as you slide on note: if it slides on easily or rattles on barrel the internal o-ring in the back of shroud may be missing?) and the shroud screws onto the liner tension screw, it does take many turns to unscrew completely, the Donny fl or factory silencer then screws onto shroud, hope this helps?

When you turn it CCW to unscrew it it'll take quite a few revolutions for the threads to disengage each other. One of two things can happen, the shroud will come off leaving the liner retention on the barrel tube where it should stay......

Or.... what you don't want, the retention nut will unscrew out of the barrel tube and stay up in the shroud.

The retention nut needs to be snugged enough and the shroud just needs to be screwed on and tightened just barely so that the retention nut always stays on the barrel tube. I always leave a little silicone grease on the exposed threads. If you end up with the retention nut stuck inside the shroud you'll have to use heat and carefully remove the end piece on the shroud to gain access to your stuck retention nut.

Hope this helps

Nope, not normal and exactly what I was saying might happen in the second scenario. Yeah, your retention nut is screwed into the air stripper that's loc-tited onto the end of the shroud. The pen in the photo is pointing to where the air stripper is and as you can see there's not much to grab a hold of if your trying to get it out even with heat applied to break the loc-tite.

What I would try first before trying to heat up the end and removing the air stripper that way to retrieve your retention nut would be to de-grease the barrel tube threads (where the retention nut should be) with some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip let it dry and then apply some blue Loc-tite to those threads and then screw the shroud back on. When it snugs up I'd leave it that way over night to let the loc-tite cure. Hopefully the retention nut with the loc-tite now on that side now will stay in place when you unscrew the shroud the next day. Holler if you need any clarification.

I have the same problem. i tried the heat method but couldn't unscrew the air stripper. not enough to grab on as you said. ill try the lock-tite method . hope it works.
