Impact M3 compact .22 - which pellets to start with?

I agree completely with nervoustrig

Even in its compact form, the M3 has plenty of power to shoot the 18.13's well, and that's where I started with mine. They will give you just a little bit more stable flight in the wind when going out to 50 yards.

Eventually I found the settings where my M3 also shot 15.89's accurately. Since I use it for ground squirrels within 50 yards (sometimes out a little further), I wanted to use the Hades pellets. Fortunately the way my gun is set up, I can choose to shoot the 18's or the 15.89's/Hades just by turning the hammer spring pre-load wheel to a different setting.

I haven't tried the 25.39's in my Compact, but after thinking it through, why not? These guns can make the power and although we think of them as having 'short' barrels, maybe that's only due to their bullpup format. 500mm barrels are actually a very effective length, and give the gun plenty of time to be pushing that pellet while it is travelling down the barrel. And if they work out for you, you will have perhaps an even better tool to fight the wind out to your 50 yard paper punching.

BTW - congrats on your incoming M3 Compact. In my opinion, for my uses and in my hands, the Compact seems to be the absolute best configuration of the Impact.

If I'm not mistaken, it says in the FX Impact manual, that the gun is made to shoot around the Exact 18.1 gr. pellet.

These seem to work well in MOST guns. I've also put the H&N 18.1 gr. pellets through my Compact with very good results. The 21 gr. work well also.

Experiment... YOU may find that YOU like something different ! Pellets are not that expensive.

I’ve had a few impacts in .22. The JSB or FX 15.9 is my favorite mid power pellet. It’s extremely accurate out to 135 yards ( Minute of starling) in light wind. I get somewhere around 200 shots shooting at 860 fps and it’s whisper quiet. Mine is set up with hammer weight removed and custom power wheel (by Monte) on 14.

the Hades are accurate too but fall apart past 80.

Thanks for the help guys.

The impact arrived today (earlier than expected). I'd ordered some 18gr JSBs and gave them a go first after the recommendations here. I was only able to shoot at 20 yards, but it'll stack them in the same hole straight out of the box. Ordered some 15.9gr and 13.4s today as well.

Tins of 500 sounded like a like of pellets, but with the STUD mag loaders, a tin sure goes fast...

Thanks again,
