Impact Barrel Fouling

I have an FX Impact in 22 with 600mm STX barrel. Added plenum kit and Huma port and probe. Shoots JSB 18 gr accurately all day long with no issues at about 940 FPS.

I have tried slugs, JSB and H&N and FX. I can get them all to shoot accurately but only for about 40 to 50 shots. Then accuracy goes off. Inspecting the barrel shows heavy lead fouling at the muzzle. The choke is tight. I have rodded pellets & slugs down the barrel. Slugs are very tight.

I am only able to remove the lead fouling with a stiff barrel brush. Pull through patches have minimal cleaning effect.

Is this normal and something I have to live with? How often do you slug users have to clean your barrels?

Many thanks - Jonjo.

I could be wrong here but if your shooting regular slugs thru your pellet liner that's going to happen . I was under the impression that the slug liner has a different twist rate and less choke to help keep from fouling. I could be wrong . (I have been married for 30 years my wife always tells me I'm wrong)

I shoot slugs thru my 25 with the slug liner but I don't have a slug liner in my 22 and it seems to do ok with the slugs but I went with the .217 instead of the .218 just to see if it would help. I have shot about 200 of them so far out of the 22 and have not noticed a difference yet

Like I said I may be completely wrong on this subject but that's been my experience so far
