If you were able to design your own springer/gas air rifle…what would it have?

like to see either hw97 or tx200 in titanium tube and internals to lessen the weight

Ohhhh. Now we're talking...if we could reduce weight and maintain that accuracy of my hw97.....it'd be the perfect gun. And have it near or above 20fpe at the muzzle...

Might as well just use gas ram then.

Guses I've become a little shy of the gas ram since they discontinued my asp20. Still love that gun, but I worry when the gas ram fails......springs on the other hand are readily available..

Start with an FWB300s Mini.

Keep the trigger, 100% keep the trigger.

Keep the stock shape but maybe offer it in laminate.

Keep the barrel (and by extension the pinpoint accuracy they are capable of)

Keep the build quality (except for that silly plastic trigger carrier business)

Keep the overall design.

But make it shoot 12-15fpe.

And since we're dreaming big, figure out a way to make the power plant be an adjustable gas ram like a RX2. Heck yeah, increase or decrease the psi in the gas ram to go from 6 fpe up to probably 15 max. Although mine would probably live around 12fpe.

Well Weihrauch has their own gas ram and it’s refillable...just any theoben gas ram would work to be honest. You’ll have to call Sig about your ASP.

Being a old grumpy airgun Luddite, I'd want something like one of these fantastic customized Webley Mk 3's I spied on FB last week. A well-made tap-loader with modern powerplant, Rekord trigger, and Parker-Hale sights.

I'm sure this would be HUGE sales hit...for me, and...oh...maybe...three other guys, LOL.

I once did a special of one of these back in 1990. I wanted a Rook rifle classic design for Rook shooting here in the UK and decided to use the MK3 as a platform because it looked like the classic .22 rimfire Rook rifles used here in the 50s.

Quite by accident i massively improved the performance of this gun by performing a mod which was not intended to improve performance at all and one that few shooters know about.

It came about after i had refinished the stock in dark Walnut and adding a better scope rail and Varminter scope. When shooting high into the trees i found a pellet would occasion to fall from the tap and down into the cylinder. Its because the OEM Mk3 had a transfer port which is a whopping 6mm which is bigger than a .22 pellet by a good 0.5mm ..unheard of in the industry.

With pretty extreme engineering and planning, i managed to sleeve the TP down (which had to be done from the trigger end of cylinder… difficult) so that no pellet could drop back through (my only reason for performing the task at that time) but was rewarded as a bonus, with massively improved performance, going from approx 10.3ftlbs to almost 12 ftlbs and a much better firing cycle..

If anyone requires the method for the mod, ill share it.

Agreed! I've often wondered why FWB did not build a deluxe sporter based on their fantastic match rifle action. I'd go for a shorter sleeveless barrel like the Mini, ditch the recoilless mechanism and its heavy carrier (like the rare model 110), slim down the stock, and I personally could live with less power. But a fixed-barrel sporter of that quality and trigger would be really special.

Stevoo, I've read of other tuners altering the Mk 3 transfer port, and would be very interested to see a description of how it was done.

No problem buddy, but the task is a bit of a problem..There is no way to access the port to do this mod from the breech end, owing to the loading tap housing blocking access unlike the simple task with a break barrel, but with the worlds least efficient TP (tapered to 6mm x 19mm long) i put my head to the task

So, i needed to go in from the cylinder side. all the way down over a 1ft of cylinder to reach it. To do this I got hold of an extendable radio aerial which is essentially stainless steel, or chromed tube…Pulling it all the way out from its 8 inch length to nearly 4ft long, i exposed 6 diameters, of which one would be useful. (5.85 dia.) then cut off the outer casing, so that the 5.85 length now became the new outer casing. I finished the end nice and flat and added a small leade with a file. Then at 19mm long, i machined in a weakness groove, until almost breaking through the wall thickness of the 6mm tube.

Without adding any Loctite stud fit, i had planned to use, I tested the 6mm length poking it all the down from the cylinder end with telescopic sections pulled apart to allow access.

It appeared to be just starting into the hole nicely so i extracted it, added the stud lock and poked it down i to the hole with the loading tap fitted.

You need to keep pushing or tapping until it hits the back of the loading tap which sets the depth of how far you need to push it down. Be warned, do not try to do this without the loading tap installed ….

Finally i wiggled at the extension until the 6mm broke off at my weakened groove …The break was quite clean. The TP reduction damped the cycle and increased the peak pressure and reduced the lost volume all at the same time…

Echos much of what has been said… Easy disassembly like TX200, threaded barrel for moderator or harmonics tuner, threaded transfer port for different port sizes, skirt-less piston with downsized compression chamber for less recoil, length adjustable piston rod to control stroke length, sled system to take care of remaining recoil. Not to mention match trigger, stock with adjustable cheek piece and Anschutz accessory rail. Available in under-lever and break-barrel.

This…..and offer a Minelli made Gary Cain type FT stock as an option. Uj

HW57 but done a bit more traditionally. No pop up breech, just a compression tube and small piston. It doesn't need to put out much power. I'd be very happy with 10-11ftlbs in that gun. Irons, meh... I could go either way but I would prefer fiber optics over the traditional HW irons.

I guess basically what I want is a 97K trimmed down to HW50S size. Honestly, I'm suprised Weihrauch hasn't made it already.

This would be my perfect spring gun. A smaller and lighter hw97k that shoots about 10-11fpe. I’d buy this immediately if it were offered by Weihrauch.
