If you could only have one CO2 pistol?

Co2 will

Can CO2 guns be left charged? The answer sometimes “yes” and sometimes “no.” It depends on the design of the gun. Some of the guns that charge a compression tube i have left for extended periods without a problem. I always remove them from the others. Especially pistols.

Follow the instructions in the manual but not to absolute about it. You can leave a gun charged overnight and even for several days; but before it’s put away, if the instructions tell you to remove the cartridge, that’s what you should do. Co2 will eventually perminate the synthetic seals unlike air in a PCP.
oh ok, I just couldn't figure out why the difference between CO2 and PCP.. years ago I had a farco CO2 shotgun that was bulk filled and you had to keep it charged just like PCP guns.. so that made me think it must have something to do with either the cartridge piercing seal area.. or they have different internal seals..

so I had the nickel shotgun Farco in 28 gauge or 51 caliber.. it used reloadable brass shells about a inch long and two homemade cardboard wads, just used a punch and a cardboard box.. I also shot sabots , I think 454 in a 50 caliber plastic sabot.. was pretty nice, had a small tank, maybe 300-400cc for CO2 and I had a 25 lb carbon dioxide bottle with dip tube so it would refill the smaller bottle with liquid..
so maybe you can see why I didn't understand why CO2 guns are not kept pressurized, because the Farco was, just like PCP.. I also had a ar6 PCP.. in 22.. both I bought from air rifle specialist in Elmira NY..
a Philippine friend of mine went to the Philippines and brought back two very special air rifles.. they were called Parco, same manufacturer but they were not intended for export, they were 22 survival rifle that they used over there.. so they were PCP foot pump.. the pump was below the barrel and air tube and had a fold down wire foot.. so you would stand it barrel down and stand on the wire foot piece and grab it by the stock and push it up and down quickly.. if I remember correctly it took around 100 pumps and was good for 20+/- full pressure shots, both the Parco and Farco looked very similar and were bolt action..
lots of guns I was fortunate to have, wish I still had at least part of the old collection..

so I am serious, are the seals made of something inferior in the regular CO2 guns that use disposable cartridges? or is it just compression on the disposable cartridge piercing seal that makes you have to not store CO2 in the gun??
I'd really appreciate if anyone else understand why they don't want you to leave CO2 cartridges in guns? also how about the CO2 guns that use a chamber that seals the whole cartridge inside, seems like I have seen a old crossman that has a bulk fill.. I don't imagine you had to empty it each time.. and as I remember the Farco shotgun said to always store with CO2 just like PCP guns..
thank you for all explanation anyone can provide.. I currently don't have CO2 guns but I am being tempted because I got a notos pistol and since I have not machined a adapter to make the moderator unscrew.. it's awful long.. will still be long with the moderator unscrewed..

As far as I can work out, if the seal is under pressure from co2, that is fine for the long term, but if it is under mechanical pressure, like the screw at the back of the bulb pushing the pierced end into the seal, that should be avoided and kept to a minimum.
thank you for your answer.. that seems logical to me, but what do I know about what kind of quality or not seals that they are putting in CO2 guns now.. I remember I never had my bulk fill shotgun empty and I had a BB pistol, I don't remember the brand but I had it for 5-10 years at least and I remember leaving CO2 cartridges in it longer term.. didn't have pellgun oil either.. I used synthetic Alphabet org fluid for them and I still use Alphabet org fluid for lubricant in like my 1/2 drive air impact wrench..
anyone have a idea what pistol I had?? I know it was either daisy or crossman but you poured the BB in like a red rider and then under the forearm you pushed the cocking lever forward and shoot and repeat.. held enough BB for at least a couple CO2 cartridges.. probably around 200.. now every CO2 BB gun seems to have spring loaded magazine.. I had that pistol.. umm 34-40 years ago.. lots of water under the bridge..

I love the Replica CO2 guns but not a big fan of dealing with the Co2. Still, have 7 or 8 though.
so I am tempted to get the Colt SAA and well if I do that.. then probably the legends lever action and who knows what next.. maybe the custom 3" peacemaker.. and that opens up more needed accessories like cartridges and belt and holster.. not the best idea since I love cowboy guns.. pretty deep rabbit hole.. why if I have to spend money can't I just get a compact PCP pistol.. or at least be able to use PCP in the above guns.. even if I had to recharge after a six gun load.. although that might get old..
anyone try like the x-2 refillable CO2 cartridges? just wondering if they would work for a six gun with around 800 PSI air and change every reload?
yes I just want the impossible.

my daughter's first pistol shooting was a Walther ppk CO2.. seemed ok.. but that's 15-20 years ago.. got her first Henry 22 around 10-12 years old..
I remember my youngest daughter empty the magazine on the CO2 Walther ppk faster than I could reload the extra magazine and she didn't miss.. 30 ft and everything in a 2" pattern..

so I am thinking about getting a Colt SAA.. are there hpa conversion kits for it? I only have PCP guns and well I bought the umarex notos pistol and it is huge, I'm a fan of cowboy guns.. I just wish for a compact PCP pistol.. I figured if I got the Colt SAA, it would probably lead to the umarex lever action and possibly a custom built Colt SAA with a 3 " barrel.. and down the rabbit hole buying CO2 cartridges.. I'd rather a few shots on PCP air as I rarely shoot over 20 rounds unless I get my blitz out...
also I understand that the seal where the CO2 is would get compressed if CO2 cartridges left in.. but I can't figure out other than that why CO2 will damage the seals in the gun and yet we are supposed to store PCP guns with air to prevent damage to the seals.. must be something I don't understand about CO2.. or it just the cartridge seal.. Mark - I guess I don't have my account set up correctly, as I didn't know/see your post, didn't mean to be rude. Looks like you got some good answers though.

I could be wrong, but don't think co2 revolvers are good candidates for pcp/hpa conversions.

ok , saw a Crossman 157 in wonderful shape box and papers , so i bought it cheap @ Toys show . Really like it posted under air pistols to ask how the shot count is and how long it maintains pressure un shot . But it is going to be fun , but loud .
so i only have one C02 pistol

thanks for the reply, we both are probably still learning how to work the account, I used to get notified of a reply but I don't anymore.. I just have to remember to look.. I didn't think you were rude or anything like that.. sometimes I go a few weeks between checking.. and I am retired and disabled and I still don't have enough time in a day, so I can easily imagine others with a job and family..
as far as hpa/ PCP conversion for CO2 guns it seems like only maybe a couple of rifle will go either way.. I understand what you are saying about revolver, but it seems like pretty much all pistols CO2.. only a few PCP pistols, I bought the notos and open sights and grips.. I still have yet to get the aluminum stock so I can machine off the moderator and then have it threaded to air gun thread so it for sure couldn't be considered a firearm suppressor.. although being plastic and plastic baffles I can only imagine if someone was stupid enough to attempt anything illegal it would blow up in their face..
anyway it's just a huge gun.. 22" with the moderator and if I make it detachable it would still be 16".. other than size there's nothing bad about the notos.. very quiet, function well and I can do 2" groups with open sights at 50 yards..
just wish I could find something in less than 12" but preferably smaller.. still wishing I had the money to buy the attaman ap16 back when it was still available.. if you happen to see anything pistol, PCP let me know..
I saw a add for a wonderful looking lever action, looks like a Winchester.. I think it was called mustang lobo but only apparently available in Spain.
anyone know anything about the proton X-2 refillable CO2 cartridge? just wondering if it could be PCP to 800 PSI, same pressure as CO2.. I just don't want to buy something if it is junk..

Man I haven't shot my C02 pistol in a long time. Need to get them some exercise.
