I would give him his wish. Seems like he was dead set on getting inside of a garbage can. So I'd give him 34 grain jsb and then put him in the garbage can permanently.

Some states allow shooting raccoon with an AG and some do not. At one time Iowa did not, so check your laws first or hope no one sees you and reports it.

His trash can securing projects are not inexpensive if you consider the time involved. Our local trash hauler provides bins that are raccoon proof as-is, with large square bases and hinged lids with overhanging lips that are impossible to for them to open.

Have seen raccoons do the same in reverse. Use the attic for having babies then rip a hole through the roofing to vacate. Originally accessed the attic through the hollow columns supporting the front porch.
