One other afterthought: The Dreamline Classic with its smaller air cylinder will be easier/quicker to fill with a less expensive HPA compressor, for someone who is just getting into PCP air rifles.

@vetmx: logically I agree with you 110%! But honestly which one of us really “need” any of our guns? The term need is a mere disguise and a lie to ourselves to justify our want! I for one have decided I’ve lied to myself long enough and “come out of closet” and proudly proclaim I don’t need any of the sh!t I have, it’s 100% want and I’m OK with myself being who I am and embrace my airgun-identity! I will no longer attend to justify any of my wants nor will I somehow identify any “needs” to anyone!
to OP: welcome to the addiction and promptly disregard any “logic” and “sense”, you will thank me sooner than later!
edit: I thought about posting “self empowerment” pictures but thongs and Airguns don’t really go well together.
Hi everyone, this is my first post here so please excuse me if I ask something stupid ;-)
I am rather new to airgunning, I just started a few months ago by purchasing a Sig Sauer MPX (CO2) gun. I pretty soon realized that this is for backyard plinking only, not for serious target practice. So then I bought a .22 Gamo Replay 10 Magnum Gen 2, This has some serious power and is way more accurate than the Sig. However due to significant recoil and the effort it takes to cock it, I am now considering the leap to PCP.
The first relatively inexpensive step I thought is to order the conversion kit for the Sig to make it an HPA gun. That would also include a scuba tank to take care of the refills. The point here is to get familiar with the PCP tech this way.
But I have now really set my eyes on the FX line of rifles. That's just me ;-) I always make the same mistakes. I first buy the entry level stuff, than upgrade a to a bit better and finally end up wanting the best. That's also the reason I have three Canon DLSR cameras the latest one being the EOS 5 Mk3 ...
So I am looking at FX Dreamline Classic, FX Maverick VP and FX Crown II, all in .22 caliber.
The thinking points:
General: I have a 30 yard range on my backyard. I would like to see pinpoint accuracy there, but also at longer ranges although that is much more seldom that I get to try that.
FX Dreamline Classic: I like the pricepoint and the form factor, but I am a bit concerned about the shot count. I'd like to avoid a refill while shooting if possible. Does it have the power to be accurate to 50-80 yards ?
FX Maveric VP: Pricepoint is OK, but I am not sure about the form factor. I like to tech specs though, especially the ability to push the power all the way to 90 joules. In my backyard I would like to dial down the power to maybe 30 or so joules, but for longer distance and/or heavier pellets I could push the envelope. I am mostly concerned about the location of the safety, that feels like a really weird place for it (but I get the engineering reason for this location).
FX Crown : Like the form factor, but dislike the price point. Lacks some of the features the Maverick would have, particularly the high power which I am not so sure I would actually need ;-).
So do you guys have any insigth to help me make my decisions ? In particular I'd like to hear Maveric users thoughts about the safety location. Also any insight on any of the above guns is welcome !
Thanks !
FX Royale platform. Pretty much EVERYONE who owns these loves them. Probably the most accurate, dependable, quiet, trouble free & great feeling platform FX has EVER made. Don't remember ever seeing a negative review here on these. If you want to tinker though this IS NOT the one. Just search past reviews/posts here about Royale & you'll see. Good Luck!!!
I disagree with the want and need thing. But I’m 52 and have owned more guns of all types than I can count. After building quite a few slug guns, I learned I needed something in a gun. But the gun that offered it was a gun that I didn’t want. But I bought one again because the first time I owned it, I wasn’t smart enough to know that I would need a certain function chasing the slug dragon. Ironically the guys that want that particular gun, most of them have no clue as to what they actually need. Some of us run around chasing the latest greatest cool stuff, some of us are more calculated when making decisions. A pellet life is a much simpler life and doesn’t require a complicated gun with a barrel that you can’t let touch something or starts acting crazy if something isn’t right in its many components.

Re: "what are your thoughts on Royale vs Boss" I have BOTH. In fact, they're the only 2 airguns I own! Sold all my others (5) after I acquired these! The Boss is my go-to hunting airgun. I absolutely love 'em both but for distance & cutting through the wind & brush the Boss is the one. Be aware, having original Smooth Twist barrels they WILL NOT shoot slugs. That being said, my longest kill with the Boss is 178 yards! With PELLETS!!! They are really fine rifles. Accuracy is second to none. The Royale is quieter than the Boss but that doesn't imply that the Boss is loud. Benchrest champions have told me more than once that these are the best all round platforms FX has ever made!

Well, I'm not sure the Royale/Boss platform is the best BR rifle available (don't know that it isn't either), but, as far as I'm concerned it's the best thing FX has ever made. It's the only FX product I own, or ever will own. I had a Crown a while, not a bad rifle, but unpredictable POI changes made it worthless as a hunting rifle. The complexity of the the barrel shroud/ sleeve/liner assembly is just too fragile for an all-purpose rifle. And then the power and reg adjustment features are other areas of unnecessary complexity. There's nothing wrong with any of this stuff, as long as you know what you're getting. For someone who likes to tinker with the rifle and explore lots of different combinations, FX is a dream come true. If you want a rifle that you set up one time, then forget about tuning and just shoot it, the Royale platform is it in the FX line. Just my opinion, and my wife says I'm always wrong.
LOL ;-) That's exactly the reason I have an EOS C100 Cinemacamera for my video hobby.
We have a saying, that the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. This is the only type of logic that is applied to any hobby.
At least the points for the Dreamline on my scoreboard have risen as a results of this discussion so far. I never heard about the power plenum before, there is nothing on the FX website about it. Would it mean more power but less shots or something along those lines ?

power plenum is just an extension tube to increase plenum space, it actually helps with both power and shot counts in most cases except really short barrels. All FX dreamline will come with 1 power plenum installed so you don't have to worry about it.
If 1600 dollar is something you would entertain then the crown MK2 is absolute BEAST! The crown in all configurations will have both transport power adjustment wheel and hammer spring adjustment dial/wheel which I can't live without. Good thing is you can't make a bad choice here!
