Ideas for moving & interactive targets

I put a red dot on my new semi-auto PCP rifle so I could practice action style shooting, where speed and timing takes precedence over absolute accuracy.

So far I've just hung various tin cans or plastic containers from a string. Start them swinging, walk back 20 feet and start shooting. Tons of fun and not as easy as it sounds, at least for me. With a 50fpe semi-auto It doesn't take long before there's more hole than tin lol.

Now that the snow has almost melted, I'm going to scout out a good place on my property to set up a shooting range. Something vaguely like hickok45 has, but less elaborate. Basically targets of different sizes, placed at various distances.

I've seen some pretty cool ideas out there. Pressurized air in water/soda bottles looks like fun. What do you guys use for your interactive or moving targets? Feel free to post up pics of your shooting ranges.

Hello sounds like you have a nice piece of property. I am not able to post the link itself but here are a few sights of easy to make diy moving targets. Just google search the following :

1 moving targets for your shooting... sensible survival.org

2 moving target stand - you tube

3 how to practice moving shots with a bow! learn how to make a zip line target! you tube james jean trickshots

All look interesting but the last (number 3) has the most potential. I have seen a few of these zip lines made with steel plates and they make a great target with instant feed back with the report of the steel. Well I hope this was a help and enjoy Eric

old saw blades

different size washers on a string, shoot threw the hole without hitting the sides.

lifesavers glued to paper, challenging but not so reactive, fun as hell.

I raid the recycling bin in the winter and find all kinds of stuff to shoot

USED shotgun shells, safety before satisfaction should be practiced here.

candy in season, Easter and Halloween are good for this

what I wouldn't shoot

stray animals

golf balls

rotten eggs

neighbors,

kids

my wife's ass

I'm sure there are more things I won't shoot but you get the idea.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It got me thinking, there's a zip line on the property that I could repurpose as a moving target. That could lead to some serious fun.

I wonder if there's a way to get a spinner target to function while suspended from a moving zip line. Or I could attach 3 or 4 soda bottles (filled with compressed air) to the zip line. That would be a ton of fun to try to hit them all before the zip line came to a stop. Even a simple tin can suspended from the zip line would make for a real challenge.

Yesterday I put a brick in one of those fabric shopping bags and attached that to the zip line. Then attached a plastic container to the bag. It was a TON of fun, but very difficult depending on how much the target was swing around. It was a somewhat random movement. Maybe too random!

The idea needs some fine tuning for sure, but the concept has so much potential. I just used my .177 springer to try it out as I didn't want to destroy what was in the background.

There's a burn pit on the property with high bermed walls, ideal for shooting at moving targets. I'll have to relocate the zip line there, if I decide to utilize it. Right now it's 1/2 full with slash. Burning it off would be the easy way, but it would make a mess of the pit. Might be time to get a rolloff delivered soon.
