Idaho’s new rules on taking turkeys with airguns, its unlawful with less than

You must use a 30 cal, at a minimum. To accommodate my fall turkey hunting plans in Idaho, it looks like I will have to modify my arsenal to be legal.

Well Idaho is smarter then CA isn't that obvious by now?

Are you trying to make a joke about .30 cal being smaller then .177 cal?

I was making a smart ass comment on why is Idaho more restrictive then CA, nothing political.

Even with pellets I think .25 is plenty for Turkey but better 30 than 25 when erroring on the side of caution as no one has perfect shots all the time. It’s a sensible law but I think it would be more sensible if they just use power level/FPE instead of caliber size IMHO but obvious challenge to that is field validation of said power level. UK got that figured out and so does Texas I think, most of the hunting/fishing regulations are self enforced given just how large US is compare number of wardens. I also do think most hunter and fisherman are honest law abiding citizens but there are always bad apples.

I am alway in support of responsible hunting/fishing regulations so our kids can enjoy our hobbies and adventures with us and after us.

I thought Michigan did. A whole YouTuber is doing it or do you mean for turkey?

one thing I will give Idaho credit for with airgun requirements to be able to use them for game animals. For the most part the rules are pretty clear and it’s up to you the hunter to make sure you’re in the right. Ie you can use a 35 cal pcp for hunting mule deer but it better have the minimum 350 FPE at the muzzle, if not you’re screwed under the eyes of the law. And if you’re like 15-20 fpe under you might be okay but say 300 fpe or below well expect a fine and maybe confiscation of the gun at a minimum.

From the 2022 spring michigan turkey hunting digest

What equipment can I use to kill a turkey? You may use a bow and arrow, a crossbow, a firearm that fires a fixed shotgun shell, or a muzzleloading shotgun. It is illegal to use or carry afield any other firearm. Pneumatic guns are legal when using ammunition containing No. 4 shot or smaller.
