I won't Paypal FF Again & Will not request it.

You have (been lucky). I’ll go further than that. On two occasions, I’ve bought items from dealers. Many of them give you a ship date, which is an unknown. In one case, it was 5 months and three weeks with no shipment on an items for which I 100% prepaid. You have 6 months to file a claim after a payment by Paypal. Even if the vendor shipped the same day (after 5 months and three weeks), by the time I receive it what if it’s defective? Now, I have no recourse, because it’s greater than 6 months. In both cases, I filed a Paypal claim. It still takes 3-4 weeks after filing the claim, to get your money, but Paypal deals with the vendor from the point of filing the claim. In both cases, I got every penny back. Even buying from a business is not foolproof these days, much less from an individual. How does your old fashioned due diligence work in a case like that? I usually spend $10,000-$12,000 on all types of guns, scopes, optics and accessories every year, only buying used if the item is no longer available new. The peace of mind paying by Paypal is well worth the small fee to me.

Hey, I'm not disputing anything you've said. As I said, I've been lucky. If I were going to prepay for something (which I've never done), then yes, I would probably be more interested in additional protection. And especially if I spent $12K a year on this stuff. I've had two instances on non-gun related purchases when I disputed the transaction through my credit card issuer, and both were resolved to my satisfaction. I've never had to do that on an air rifle transaction, but I expect it might offer similar results.

Credit cards are great protection, but most individuals don’t accept them. I have never tried to file a chargeback on with my credit card company after 3,4 5 or more months on a business, but I know I have 6 months at Paypal. This is getting to be a very expensive hobby. One Delta Wolf with PRS accessories is easily $4,000 (yes I had one earlier this year). I sent a dealer $500 on Saturday as a deposit on another Impact M3. Who knows when it will arrive? I’m not worried. I informed the dealer that if we got near the 6 months and no gun, I would ask him for a refund and immediately make a new $500 deposit without losing my spot on the wait list to extend my protection for another 6 months.

I’m not trying to showcase what I spend or have. All I’m trying to say is the money is getting big in this sport, and so are the number of scammers both individuals and some of the best known and highly regarded dealers. I try to share any ideas I can to try and help guys on here not get cheated out of their money. We as a group are being targeted, and we need to protect ourselves.

I never saw Paypal FF used out in the public, other than with my family and friends, until I arrived to this forum just over a year ago. It was surprising to see how heavily it is used on the classifieds here. Some twenty-odd years ago, joined up on Amazon, eBay and PayPal as an affordable option to getting textbooks for school. The fees and stuff have seemed reasonable enough for the service provided. Still, if amenable to do so with other party, I will write and post a check. Somewhat anachronistic these days.

The post office does suck but no worse than Fedex or UPS. Fedex will not leave my packages where I have instructed them to. I went on line and left instructions to leave packages at the front door. The front door has a roof over it. They want to leave it outside my garage where it will get wet if it rains. I know they have the instructions that they would see when they scan the item as delivered. I know because I finally caught one of their sorry ass drivers and asked him why he left the package where he did when he had other instructions. The guy had no answer and showed me that his scanner did tell him to leave at the front porch. Now for UPS. How many times have any of you paid off a house mortgage? Twice for me. The last time the f ed up UPS driver lost my overnighted check for thousands of dollars. I forget what the check was for. I know because he said "hmmmm, I saw that before I left". I had to get another check after the original was cancelled. Now for USPS, I worked there 28 years and some in customer service/claims. I know the carriers deliver to the wrong address all the time. I live in a neighborhood with a FB webpage and people complain all the time about all of the common carriers f ing up.

Used Friends & Family for a purchase on here about ten days ago. Recieved tracking number about 3 days ago. ( slow, but things come up) The seller printed the label & it shows in the usps system that the label has been printed, but has not been scanned. Ok, it may show up, but if it does'nt I am out 215.00 plus PP fees.

My advice is do not use FF no matter who or what. As I know & you do too , you will have no protection. If I sell anything on here or anywhere else, I will no longer request FF it is not fair to the buyer.

It’s not fair to pay pal either
