I will not eat them with a fox…I do not like green eggs and ham

This was a weird deal. I went golfing today, and I got a little distracted on the seventh hole. I saw this guy walking towards some thick grass, behind some landscaping, so I swooped around it and came up from the other side. Obviously this guy got a pass. I’d say this years baby.

The videos are all under 20 seconds, so they’re easy to upload.

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but I was backing up during one of the videos. I’m very aware that fox tend to get rabies, and that abnormal behavior is usually associated with it.

That was very fresh in my mind while I was doing the videos. This guy just looked unconcerned. He looked healthy, and I think he’s been feeding off that area of the golf course for a while.

That said, I did not have a golf club in my hand but I do have feet. And I was ready. He had absolutely no aggression. And after I got up close he did not seem sick.

Cool video, what a pretty fox! Always be careful, but if it's grown up around the golf course, it's probably used to people. We have 2 foxes here that come by every night, they aren't worried at all about what we are doing. They act like we are not even there unless you're walking towards them. Been around people their whole lives. Sometimes they eat the bird seed, or climb up into the fig tree to get the fruit. Never knew foxes could climb trees, but I've seen them way up there, 20ft at least, raiding nests of birds or squirrels? Weird to look up one day and your staring at a fox over your head lol

By nature they are nocturnal, so by the time you got to the 7th hole he should have been well asleep, fox out during that time of day something is not right, my experience is from a daytime encounter by a rabid fox, 11 rabies injections, not fun!!!

yes, this is what made me post what i did earlier.....^^^^^^^^^^

Oh, I agree with you guys. I believe I’ve read that quite often it will happen to the male in the spring when it gets hot 🥵.

I was quite concerned at first that he was letting me get that close. But rabid animals don’t act like this one.

I also have a short video of him lying down on the grass and grooming himself after eating the pocket gopher, He was just very mellow. And basically ignored me.

When my buddies finished putting out, they came up and took more pictures while I stood there and watched. He just laid there and groomed himself. His entire coat was absolutely beautiful as well as his tail. No signs of distress. Obviously no frothing at the mouth.

Like I said in one of the videos, crazy.

I appreciate the interest in the post, he was an absolutely gorgeous animal.

I would not recommend this to my children. But I’m a stubborn old guy with a pretty effective front kick. I was kind of wishing for the old golf shoes with cleats on them…

Would you mind sharing the backstory?

One time my wife and kids went up to church, and in the parking lot was an obviously rabid fox eating the leftovers from a McDonald’s bag. They stayed in the car, and took pictures. It was kind of ratty looking, and not real coordinated.

Sure, i dont mind sharing, it was summertime in North Carolina, in the middle of the day, my dog outside on a chain raising hell cause this fox gets under the house which was open underneath the front porch, i went outside bare foot, the fox ran out from under the front porch bit me on top of my left foot, and ran back under the house, so i go inside and clean the wound, it was not real bad but you can tell its a bite mark by the teeth puncture holes, so i call sheriff dept, a deputy and animal control show up, this fox was stumbling around like it was drunk, the deputy shot it with his taser, this fox being tased still raised its neck and head up off the ground, thats how mad in the head it was, i grap an iron rake and dragged it out, deputy shoots it , i wanted to cut the tail off and keep it but was told i couldn't do that, animal control sends it off for examination, the county health dept. calls me 3 days later{ county health dept handels all rabies cases } they tell me fox was positive for rabies, and E.R. is expecting me and i need to get rabies injections, so I go to E.R. a nurse from health dept and a RN. from hospital take me straight to the back, they got copies of reports from deputy and animal control officer, they take my height and weight [ this determines how much vaccine you have to have] so lab determines i need 11 injections , 4 of those injections on that day back to back, this vaccine is rather thick and takes a large bore syringe to administer, now they always say it goes in your hip, but we all know its not your hip it is the butt, so after that 4 the first day, i went back and got 2 every other day , the last day i got one, the interesting thing after you have been vaccinated is now i go to heath dept and donate blood so more vaccine can be made from my blood. Thanks for letting me rant!!

Sorry you had to go through that, but thanks for relating your story here! I was always told they gave the shots directly into the stomach. So much for what I was told...

Yes I remember hearing about that as a young boy, don’t get bit by a rabid animal. Or your subjected to hundreds of shots through the abdominal muscles, the stomach when you were six.

Foxes are known for having rabies.

I would have to say because of stories like yours, I was very cautious. And this was a well groomed healthy young fox ignoring me.

I had thick leather golf shoes on, he would’ve looked like a football.

I can understand running out in your bare feet to save your dog, I would’ve done the same thing. I may have grabbed some kind of killing utensils along the way…but ‘stuff happens fast.

I love Foxes. They gladly take any vermin I kill in the protection of my property.

However I sometimes think the Grey Foxes in my area are taunting me!!

Well that one sure is anyway.

What a pretty little grey! We don't have them here. There are plenty out in West (By God) Texas where I used to live. Great little doggies. I like them a whole lot more than yotes.

One of the things people will never understand who don’t hunt. When you hunt you see things. You see things you wouldn’t see you unless you were hunting, or doing wildlife photography.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching both foxes and coyotes hunt at relatively short range while deer 🦌 hunting. Both from the ground, and from tree stands. There was once a fox in Montana who hunted in front of me maybe 50 feet away, the wind was in my favor, for probably 45 minutes, jumping up in the air and coming down on his front feet trying to catch mice and catching quite a few. I had a coyote hunting from the exact same vantage point earlier on that trip. Obviously a good hunting spot for mice. Phenomenal for mule deer.

Hunters get to see that.

This guy looked like one of those, only a bit lazier. It was a big golfer he caught, and it took him about 30 seconds. (Gopher).
