I Took One to the Head Today

Boy you sure bleed a lot out of your head. Yeah, that's going to leave a mark.

I always double-check my QD fitting to my gun before starting to fill. Guess I'll have to start triple-checking. Not in any hurry - just filling some rifles to take up to the range tomorrow. Let loose at ~190 bar, and the gauge is in the bottom of the stock, so guess where I was looking? Wearing safety glasses as I always do.

Just a little Public Service Announcement. High pressure air is no joke.

Gonna go take some Advil now.

Glad you’re okay. It’s easy to get complacent after you fill your gun hundreds or thousands of times. All it takes is one little incident like this to wake you up and make you start paying attention to safety again. Even then, sometimes things just “happen”.

My boys are 11 and 13, shoot with me all the time and are certainly more than capable of filling their own guns....This is exactly why I don’t let them though! HPA can be scary.

Glad it’s just a flesh would, makes you look tough! 🤣

Happy New Year. Stoti

Sorry to hear this, Glad you are ok, you are lucky. It takes a special person to admit mistakes in public so others can learn from them.
That will wake you up! Maybe a paintball mask would be safer! Great reminder to everyone.
Just putting this out there, I usually throw a towel over the connection and aim it away from me, I also use the gauge on my compressor as opposed to looking at the rifle gauge.
Once again, glad you are ok, could have been much worse, and the girls always like a good scar just make up a better story!!!

I’m assuming the QD wasn’t fully “clicked” down in place and popped off with force?
Might be helpful to clarity more exactly what happened to aid those (like me perhaps ) who aren’t certain. Also when posting this do you think everyone knows what QD stands for. Quick Disconnect. The newbie folks might be more likely to have this happen so just to be completely clear.....

My newest compressor has a nice, large, and now very clearly readable gauge. I think I will use the suggestion above and judge fill pressure off the compressor gauge going forward.

My new little shorty Crown project has now drawn its first blood! Glad it was the synthetic stock I bled all over. Should have taken a photo before I cleaned it up, but then I would have had to move this thread to the 'Hunting' section due to 'graphic images'.😁

Yes you are correct - the fitting wasn't fully clicked/locked in place when I started filling the gun. It survived my normal 'pull on it' test, but it took a pressure of almost 3,000 psi before there was enough force to blow it off. When I stopped my bleeding, cleaned up and went back to fill the gun I made sure to look at the width of the area shown at the arrow in the photo below to make sure the collar had gone all the way into the down/locked position. Unfortunately the Foster fittings on many guns are buried in the stock and not visible when the connector is attached.
