I think I made a deal on a benchrest airgun. Where to shoot in SW Ohio?

All 3 of the mentioned venues run top notch matches throughout the year, and through the winter in some cases.
I am just east of Troy, and can reach Meeker, Central Ohio, and Fairfield all within 1.5 hours of driving.

Sherwood and Chagrin falls are several hours away, but both offer great competition with great folks as well.

What type of rifle are you looking for?

I live close enough to Fairfield to shoot there regularly. I would like to find a rifle that would be appropriate and competitive there.

I talked with Jeff. Seems 30 cal is predominant but I would not want to be limited to shooting only there. Indoor Benchrest would be of interest although Marion is further than I would want to go on a regular basis.

A Thomas is probably beyond what I would want to spend. I have never shot BR. Not sure how much I would shoot.

The RTI Prophet Performance LR .22 gen 1 is what I used for several years for 50Y BR shooting and it was very accurate and competitive with 25.4 MRD pellets. I tried many different rifles but nothing was more accurate [in my hands] for 50Y until I got my Thomas. Its in another league of its own. I feel .22 is a great caliber for 50Y BR and it's still accurate at 100Y in VERY light wind conditions. However, in challenging wind I agree with Jeff that .30 has a slightly better wind advantage at 100Y. I tried a few different guns in 30 and settled on a Ghost. It shoots great at 100 but I still prefer the docile 22 at 50. The Ghost is a tactical style rifle made mostly of metal and is likely much different in feel than your CF stocked rifle. Its also heavy which is your friend on the bench. I shot in the Pyramid Air Cup this summer which was my first ever 100Y match anywhere. The Ghost got me into the finals against a field of seasoned and more experienced shooters than me and I credit the rifle with much of my meager success there. I haven't shot any 100Y events since but will try it again next year with the Ghost 30.

The RAW HM100X comes to mind if you are looking for a BR stock that is more similar to your CF stock. I've had 3 RAWs but none could kick my Prophet out of the top spot. Many many other rifles have come and gone over the years and the Prophet has remained #1 until the Thomas. I think the barrel is perhaps 80% of the gun and winning the barrel lottery is a bigger part of the air gun accuracy game. I've got a $300 gen 1 Avenger that is VERY VERY close in accuracy to the Prophet so you don't have to spend a boatload of money to find a winner either. Granted the other rifles have better fit and finish, compared to the Avenger but accuracy is the #1 priority in BR shooting at least in my mind.
