I think I did my part

This is a rest. As the name "rest" implies...the gun is rested upon the front and rear support. It is not clamped into it. The rest is a means of supporting the rifle while allowing mechanical elevation and wibdage adjustment. You do not clamp a rifle into a rest.

At my range we had vey nice tables like the one pictured But (there is that word again ) the members voted to change then all to wooden benches that can be moved and unleveled and random distances to the targets so sad .

Isn't that pretty hard to control and have a safe and consistent firing line? Our range has one firing line and portable target stands to change your shooting distances.
