Air Venturi I ordered my first PCP.

A few months ago, I studied air rifles to death and ended up not buying one. The expenses associated with a good PCP compared to a 22 sub ammo round was a turn off for me. Since then, I've retired and my neighbor bought his own PCP for starlings. He shoots non-lead pellets in order to cut down on lead poisoning possibility of his chickens and other farm poultry. My rifle should be here in the first week of June. Has anyone messed with non-lead 22cal slugs? What did you learn? Thanks, and have a wonderful weekend.

I'm full of lead and I'm ok.

Still stuck on the studies of air rifles to death…WT$!$ ?? lol. Are we talking the death of the critters they are pointed at or what ?
No need to be stuck. I'll explain. I tend to research stuff a lot before I get into it. The more I studied, the more I realized it's an expensive route to get started in if I'm going to have a AR that will do what I'm after, with a quality starting point similar to my hunting rifles. It's a hard process to accept that a pellet rifle costs more than a modern centerfire deer rifle!

Ok….not a condescending a hole just a stupid one lol. I mis interpreted the death part of your statement and was having fun. Yeah this hobby isn’t cheap. It’s all a trade off. If you are one that sights in a deer rifle and shoots it a time or two a year and it sits in the safe until hunting season then by all means that route is cheaper. If you like to shoot much at all in the long run the pcp will be many times cheaper to have fun with.

There's way more parts and labor involved in building a safe, quality, accurate PCP than a firearm. Airguns were developed and patented prior to the modern even caplock muzzleloader and saw wars fought with muskets. While it seems crazy at first, the shear complexity alone plus the labor, and lower production rates vs firearms makes that the case. Add in a device that can build 4500psi in compression and fill it safely for a long time vs powder and that's the answer.

Couldn't be happier with the Aveng-X. Sure wish I hadn't waisted time and money on my first rifle, a Gamo barrel cocker. This PCP is much more accurate and usable.
