I need a compact comfortable 22

I need a 22 for testing. I want it to be compact as in easy to carry, And it needs to be comfortable to shoot offhand or leaning against a post or? I saved up my money to buy a Taipan but had a weak moment at AOA and bought a Wolverine. Now a few months later I am wanting a compact 22 rifle for walking. I walked around with the wolverine in tow in one hand and a tripod in the other, too much to carry for a old guy. I also keep procrastinating because I have never held a Veteran. So You all that have a Veteran standard are they comfortable to shoulder and shoot offhand. I am sure they are way different than a conventional rifle. Give me some opinions to consider.

thanks

I have a 25 cal Taipan Compact, and it handles great and FPE is 16 to 50 ft.lbs. If you have the money I would recommend a 25 cal Taipan Vet Compact in .25 cal. Here is mine...Even though I have a Leshiy 2 now, the Taiapan is still my favorite gun.

The Taipan has great lanance and with the DonnyFL sumo it is scared quiet.

Can't go wrong with a Taipan had a friend who used to bring his over all the time until he moved to Virginia. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

I've got three pups in .22 cal and they all three are mighty fine guns. I love my rear cocking Cricket pup, but find myself grabbing the Vulcan and the Hummingbird more often because of the side cocking.

@CampFussell

Nice! Are those the BSA 4-14x44 TMD scopes you have mounted? I also wonder what distance you are shooting at?

🐦

Yes BSA's on the Vulcan and Bird, but they're both 6-24x44. The Cricket is sporting a Mueller 8-32x44. Nice little scopes for the pups.

I hardly shoot past 50 or 60 yds with them. I have managed quite a few 1.2 inch five shot groups with the Cricket but never could get sub moa with it. All three can easily splatter grapes at 50 yds right regularly. I shoot the 18.1 grain JSB's in all three.

I have 2 veterans in .25, a std. and a long, and they're both outstanding guns. Very accurate, possibly the best trigger out there, and quiet with a DonnyFl on them. They're not particularly light, however, and my Wildcat Mk II in .25 might be a good alternative for you. I have the sniper, and it's not that heavy, but you could save some weight with the shorter version. Powerful, good trigger (not quite as good as the Vets), and a good shooter. Any of the 3 would be great guns for you, and I'd buy them all again!

I sure like the looks of the Vulcan but wonder about the weight. The single point sling looks nice. I wonder if you could make that work on a one of those bull pups.

I just weighed mine with the BSA scope attached, but took off the bipod. 9.2 pounds scoped!

Mine's a Gen 4 in a Vulcan 2 stock. The trigger is outstanding and I like the magazine too. Mine holds 11 rounds. I've got it tuned down to 835 fps with the 18.1's for 28 fpe and easily shoot five mags on a 210 bar fill!

I had a .25 Warcat (fancy Wildcat Compact) and a .30 Wildcat, stock except for a Picatinny scope rail and printed barrel band. Both were great guns, very accurate, and reasonably lightweight. I too would own a Wildcat (Compact) as a walking hunter, in a heartbeat. I also had an SK19 in .25. I will agree for it’s weight, it was well balanced, but, it was heavy. I had an 3-14 ATN 4k Pro on mine. It was like 11#.
