or maybe I'm ignorant. When I insert the fill probe into the cylinder shouldn't I see pressure on the pump's gauge? I see nothing. It's a Hatsan Bullboss. Cylinder shows 125 bar on it's gauge. Bleed valve on pump is closed.

NO, the check valve in the fill port will not open up till you pump up pressure in the fill hose
and when you open the bleed valve(on your pump) after filling, you want to open it Quickly, to seat or close that check valve

The fill port opening is a one direction valve.
Allows air in, as long as it's working properly, it will not let pressure out. If it did show pressure at your pumps gauge, it wold not contain air pressure.

get a yung heng compressor its alot faster thats what i got for my bullboss after a week of hand pumping, i got my bullboss .25 back in november. my first pcp

Hey molder. I might get one eventually. Like when I'm old and decrepit. Right now I don't mind the exercise. It only took about 75 pumps. I do 10 pumps then take a break, rinse and repeat. It was actually easier than I was lead to believe it was going to be. One of the reasons I chose the Bullboss was the smaller 230cc cylinder.. I wanted a PCP rifle that didn't rely on electricity to fill.

Good to know. When I pull the trigger on my first pcp I’m going hand pump too. My only concern is not having a low enough heartbeat after pumping to shoot tight groups.

Hi Walter. I've seen some 4 stage pumps at about $100. Supposed to get the job done with easier pumping and 15% fewer pumps than the 3 stage. I might try one if this $46 Chinese one misbehaves. At least, the first time, it worked flawlessly in spite of my ignorance. As for your heartbeat, fill it up at night and shoot in the day..........or use it to test how well you shoot under stress.

Hey jarmstrong. I haven't considered that. Glad you brought that up. Gonna have to ponder that. My immediate response is to go for the bottle and not a big one. What size bottle would charge a 230cc cylinder say 3 times?

Well, that was a dumb question I just asked. The answer is about 690cc. Do they make one that small? Dang, now you made me have to go research this...lol.
Just found a 500cc bottle for $129. One review said it takes about 600 pumps to fill it up. I guess you could get it done over a weeks time. Now that's exercise.

Looks like about $200 will get a 6.8L bottle with adapters and hose. Couldn't get the calculator to work, but I have no doubt that'll refill it several times.

Actually, I think I'll just get a couple of extra 230cc cylinders from Hatsan. Should be able to chase a leak that way. Fill it off the rifle, then screw it in and check. I can get 2 for 200 bucks.
Man, my brain is in a fog this morning. I can check for leaks with what I have now. As above, I just need to remove the cylinder from the gun and fill it. Then screw it in and check. I don't need to spend any more dough. But I think I will get an extra cylinder anyway. What the heck.

Keep in mind of using different cylinders they may or may not shoot the same out of the box.
