I like my Argus .22 better now

Modified stock covered with Gunskins vinyl. I didn't do a show quality job of my first Gunskin work, but if you don't look too closely, it's ok.

Thanks guys.

Blackpaw -

Yea, I like it overall. For its size, it is a little heavy, but that also helps with offhand shooting which is the way that I shoot. Helps with steading. Haven't actually counted, but it seems to have a good shot count per fill, or partial fill. The trigger is nice. I bought it from Georgia Airguns. He did a little work to the power and the trigger. Not sure, but I've heard that they are a single stage trigger pull. He did some work to make it a double stage pull. Then I did some more work to the main trigger action spring. It's a nice smooth double stage pull now. Overall comfortable at the shoulder, easy to shoot.

If you'll remember...(you've seen it) I already have an Edgun Lelya, in .22 cal. Actually it was my first foray into air rifles, about a year and a half ago. It was also the first stock that I modified..! No plan on shooting slugs in anything. My "range" is pretty short, pellets work fine for me.

Hello Mike, how do they compare, in your view.

As I answered to Blackpaw -

Hmmm, tough one. I'll think out loud here…

1. Cocking – Argus While the Lelya 2 has two cocking arms, the Argus's arm can be swapped to either side. But because the Argus has mechanical advantage and the Lelya 2 does not, the Argus wins. The Lelya needs a concentrated pull AND push to cock properly.

2. Tough (truck bed friendly!) – Lelya 2

3. Magazine loading – Lelya 2 Both come with two magazines.

4. Loading magazine into gun – tossup

5. Quiet (original baffling system) – tossup This is coming from indoor shooting.

6. Shouldering – tossup

7. Holding on target (offhand shooting) – tossup

8. Stock, didn't like either – tossup. Modified both. The Lelya 2 stock NEEDED modifying for comfort. The Argus stock just needed a "visual" fix.

9. Mechanical (interior) – Tossup Both guns have hearty mechanical parts. Should last a long time without problems.

10. Trigger – Tossup…sorta. The Lelya trigger didn't need any work. I was happy with it as it came to me. The Argus is a single stage trigger which I don't like I bought the Argus from Georgia Airguns. They adjusted the trigger for me to feel like a two stage trigger. So ultimately, it's a tossup. Both have smooth movement, with a clean break at the second stage. Neither are super adjustable as some guns are.

11. Power adjustability – tossup. Both need to have the stock removed to do any adjusting.

12. Sight / scope rail – tossup. Both full sized Picatinny.

13. Magazine storage – Lelya. The Lelys magazines can be stored under the Picatinny rail

14. Accuracy – Argus (?). I can't REALLY properly answer this. My indoor "range" is fairly short, and I shoot offhand. But, it seems that I can shoot the Argus slightly better than most of my guns. Don't know why, the barrel design (octagonal rifling) maybe, shooting 15 to 23 grain pellets. I can more often keep the pellet hole…a single hole with the Argus, vs. hole NEAR touching hole with other guns..! Long distance (over 25 yards), "possibly"…a tossup. The Argus seems to be happy with FX, Benjamin, JSB Exact pellets. SHoots equally well with all three of these. The Lelya seems to like only the JSB's best.

What else ? Both good guns, With the Argus being less expensive, the Argus wins. The customer help, would be the Argus wins. If they were the same cost, except for the customer help, I'd say that it would be…a coin toss. While there is customer service for the Lelya 2 (Brian (West Coast), I think that the customer service might be better with a more widely known Kaliburguns.

Hope that helps. Let me know what I missed !

@harrymoreland and @mikevv I think it comes down to preference of looks. If you look at the price difference between the two is $80.00. For guns with a $1600 price point, $80s isn't that much different, IMHO, like 5%.

In shot count the Argus wins because it is 14 per magazine (in 22) vs 10 in the Leyla. Extra magazines I think are cheaper for the Leyla. However, the two Argus magazines are essentially equal in shot count to 3 Leyla magazines. I don't think it would be too difficult to manufacture a magazine holder for the Argus with a design similar to the ones used on the Taipans.

For portability the Argus is 1.5 lbs or so heavier than the Leyla, and one inch longer.

Barrel length of the Argus is 2.7 inches longer than the Leyla. Charlie on GAG lists the ARgus gets around 80 shots on reg, and I think Brian lists the Leyla at 40ish / Francisco says 130 to 30 depending on caliber and power setting Low to Extra High. Charlie and I spoke about the Argus and he says 60 yards is where he would limit the Argus, but I am sure you could stretch it out to the 60 plus off a bipod (can you attach a bipod to a Leyla?). I have Alex of Air Rifle Activities shoot the Leyla 75 yards plus, but I he is far better shot than me. 😂

Not having a picky barrel would be nice for "batch up" pellet choices if JSBs aren't available.

Alex from Air Rifle Activities and I had a chat, from his experience the Leyla 2.0 and Taipan Vet Std are the most accurate guns he has ever shot. Except the Argus wasn't around until recently.

Aesthetically, the Argus is not what I would call a beautiful gun, and is pure function. The Leyla 2.0 I think goes both ways, Edgun always seems to get top notch word for the stocks.

Once I CAN make a decision I think it will be a hard one, yes first world problems. 😂

@MikeVV thanks again for all the input.
