I just bought a Bulldog

I just bought a Bulldog from mercado here on the forum. It will be my first big bore airgun. I’ll probably start out with pellets until I can get it modified to shoot a heavier slug. How do the Polymag’s group out of the Bulldog and what’s the best speed to shoot them at? I was hoping to keep testing to a minimum given the ammo supply issue. I am also going to order a moderator for it. Has anyone tried both the Pit bull Mega and the Donny FL Emperor? I’m looking for the quietest one I can find for it.

I have a Donny FL Emperor and it takes the bite out of the report. Without it I’m told it sounds like a .22lr. With the Emperor it still isn’t backyard quiet if that’s what you’re after. Nosler .357, 145 grain slugs do ok out of a stock Bulldog, but out to 75 yards they dropped like crazy in my experience. If you want to increase velocity without drilling out your transfer port you can buy a sturdier/thicker spring. It may be a good idea to grab a steel cocking lever as well. I’d have to find my numbers for the Nosler slugs, but they are slow out of the stock Bulldog I think they were in the 600s (fps). I shoot the JSB .35, 81.02 grain pellets more than anything from the stock version. They group well (within 50 yards) and hit hard. I didn’t really get into polymags. @estarkey7 is someone you may want to ask about the velocity of polymags. I’ve seen videos of him using them. The sweet spot on my stock Bulldog with the JSB .35 Diabolo Pellets is around 2800-2500 psi. Considering that the stock Bulldog is unregulated there no set speed to shoot hone in on unless you tether it to a tank with an external regulator. Finding the sweet spot in the reservoir pressure is a good place to start. You should be able to get 10 good shots with 81 grain pellets, but I am in the habit of pushing it to 15 with holdover adjustments. Hope this info helps some.

moderstor will only go so far .. an emperor and hill depinger is an excellent combo, be about as loud as a stock prod, its deceivingly quiet given the power on tap ..... accuracy, its not an olympic competition bench gun, fx domes are good, it can hit a golfball at 50 and a soda can on end to about 80 which is its realistic limit to hunt with imo ...

The Predator Polymags are one of my most accurate rounds out of the Bulldog! I shoot them around 930fps and I have the Pitbull Power Spring installed in both of my Bulldogs. I have barrel supports in both Bulldogs, and that really keeps the groups tight. I also have the DonnyFL Emperor and Ronin for my Bulldogs. The Emperor is the quietest, but it's front heavy and long, so I mostly use this only when I'm shooting from the bench.

Here is a 105 yard headshot with the Polymags on a groundhog with the Bulldog.

I also have several other shots from varying distances. One thing to note about the Polymags, is depending on the game you shoot, penetration may be limited due to the ultra-soft lead expanding very early on. I ran into that problem with a few massive groundhogs. For instance, this groundhog at just 30 yards was rather small, and I didn't get a full passthrough.

The JSB Exact rounds have a harder lead alloy, and penetrate deeper to get to the vitals, but they don't expand as much.

You'll do yourself justice and try out the NSA 110gr. HPDB slugs. I bought the .357cal and my groups tightened up when I got the .358cal ones. They cut through raccoons like nobody's business!

Thanks for all the great information. I watched your videos (all of them) yesterday before I even posted on this. I am looking at getting a thermal as well, probably ATN since my 4K scope has done such a good job. You videos popped up when I was looking through YouTube on the thermal. I will give those Polymags a try and see how they shoot.

Donny FL emperor plus extender and a regulator in mine got it super quiet. The noise is now mechanical and the slug hitting. Nothing you can do about either of those.

The down side is it made it really long.

The pitbull moderator tucks the baffling on the underside instead of extending the barrel. It seems to work well in the vids I watched. Down side is this limits reservoir mods if you plan on doing any.

Bulldog is a fairly loud pcp in its stock form. The stock baffle doesnt do anything in my opinion.
