I haven’t seen a squirrel in months…

Last night before dusk I went out to cut a tree down. So I was carrying my chainsaw not an air gun. I saw the first squirrel I had seen in two months. He must be a newcomer. He sat on the tree and looked at me from about 20 feet away. The only reason he got a pass because I had no rifle..

I went out this morning to check things out, this time carrying an air gun. Got to the same spot, same squirrel, Penny treed it!

It was trying to get to the next tree so it could escape,. I caught him moving pretty fast up the trunk of the tree, he paused for just a second.

The Sheridan was already on my shoulder and he rolled.

What a great way to start the morning.

@Flintsack Well at least you know some are still in the area. Looks like you bagged a juvenile boar that didn’t know any better. He didn’t know whose territory he’d encroached upon. So Penny trees squirrels too? Is this the first one she’s treed? Does she bark or just bolt towards the animal sending them scurrying?

She does not bark she has previously treed both chipmunks and squirrels. She rushes if Iet her.

Congratulations! I don't see as many as I used to. I'm not sure how much is my thinning of them over the last couple years, how much is an eagle I've seen nearby, and how much is due to them having plenty of food available this time of year. My little dog watches the backyard while I watch TV. If she sees one she starts hoping around to get my attention.

Now your back to 0 lol, love the stock on that, Flintsack what's the year of the rifle ?
I would guess the rifle was originally built in the 1970s. It was a CO2 model is it left the factory. The original owner invested a lot of money to make it into a PCP, and put the beautiful stock on it. I’ve shot in groups with her at 100 yards with the open sites.

A good PCP rifle is better than any exterminator or system of traps you could buy. I have a small grove of pecan trees and a large vegetable garden on our property and they would really do a number on them. They also chewed wood and wires on my shop and are one of the biggest carriers of fleas (according to our vet). I went on a mission to dispatch as many as possible as soon as squirrel season came in and where we used to see dozens of squirrel, we now have NONE. It's easy to quietly dispatch them with a good PCP rifle and I pleased to say it is possible to remove an entire local population. I'm curious as to how long it will take for some traveling squirrels to find their way. As of now, it's been weeks without one squirrel seen.
