I finally got the FX Impact I felt I deserved!!

Hi guys,

Im hoping this will help the next guy. I had read about the FX Impact having POI shifts but I didn't pay much attention to it. Thats where my story begins; I got my shiny new Impact a few weeks ago and began the wonderful journey to frustration. I was shooting good but not great the groups seemed to shift about an inch up, down to the left or right with no rhyme or reason. I thought is my scope moving...checked everything, I even put another scope on to see if that was it, NOPE. On to the next thing pellets, I tried several weights and brands with no luck. Next on to tuning lets see if that helps 800-950 in 10-15 fps increments-No love ..Hmmmmm its got to be in the gun..I called FX who were more that helpful with things to check (pellet probe going in smooth, chrono speeds and so on)SOOOOO here is what you have been waiting for......What was it...To be honest I did two things at the same time (1) I installed new o-rings in the 1/2 UNF adaptor at the end of the barrel. (2) I polished the barrel with diamond paste down to 3.5 micron. I was noticing my barrel was fouling within 300 or so shots. Im honestly not sure which one was the culprit but my guess is the barrel. Here is a picture of my target shot @48yards, the top row was while the barrel was seasoning back in. This is what I had hoped I could get out of this gun. Thats about as good as i can shoot to be honest. Pellet on pellet is probably not in my skill set at the moment.

I know how you guys want to see more than one group so here she is in all of its glory!!

Reg set at 100, JSB 18.1 @940 fps (yes I know thats smoking for the pellets but it works)

Congrats! Mine is in flight and will be here in 2 more days, the wait is absolutely killing me!!!!!

Here is a video by Matt Dubber on how to get the best out of the Impact and the first thing he mentioned is cleaning the barrel.

I actually received my slug liner yesterday so I decided to do a quick cleaning before I install it and long be hold, the barrel was filthy! Some automotive brake cleaner and more cleaning got it to be quite shiny and clean inside. my plan is to use some silicon try lube in the barrel and on the slugs themselves, not sure if teletypes really need lube since the contact area is so low.

Thanks for the video,

When I received the gun I cleaned the barrel well. What I was talking about was polishing the barrel using diamond paste. Im don't mean to imply the FX barrel isn't okay from the factory, but when I spoke to the tech at FX he said it was fine to polish the barrel (no warranty implications) Ive never see polishing cause negative effects on a barrel so I thought I would give it a go.

RJ Obviously you were smarter than me😂 I knew better! Im going to give lubing the pellets a try. Thanks

Got it! That is interesting that you needed to polish it further, I did see in a different video that said it take a few shots to line the barrel with thin film of lead and the barrel becomes mostly self cleaning but it doesn't seem to be the case for you. Hopefully with enough pellets through it you won't have to deal with it anymore.
