They're pushing all the song birds away, there's just too many of them. I want to shoot them but they're just too damn smart, they can spot me no matter where I hide, a single move and they take off. Any tips on dealing with them? I'd love to shoot a good number of them on a daily basis but I can't get a shot without them just flying away.

You have to conceal yourself and lie in wait . They do wise up. The further away and the quieter the gun the better.

I usually post up in a sitting position.
And wait they will fly away when they first see you but if you stay still in the ready position and time or project where they will land you usually get a few seconds to pop them i got 4 of them the other day they seem to smarten up. Haven't seen any back yet

Lots of sparrow traps on Amazon some are pretty pricey at approaching $200. Lots in the $50-$100 range. Might be cheaper on eBay or elsewhere.

i made one of those sparrow traps it works great but it takes to long shooting them is better and faster i am a Purple Martin Landlord i wack sparrows and starlings on a regular basis in the hundreds the past couple of years

Look into camouflage clothes and mask with hat. Maybe surplus thrift store for cheap.

Throw bait for them in your yard daily too.
Set up a window to shoot through with dark covered drapes or curtains.

that sounds perfect really, idk what bait they need but i am guessing dried bread will do just fine

Bait station at distant is the ticket. They seem to notice me really quick at 25 yards but at 35 yards they are less cautious. Food will drive them back especially during the winter. Move slow because they got really good sight and reflex. A permanent blind or hide you can slip inside without be in their view and gun already in position is ideal.
A super quiet low power gun is also ideal so they don’t know what hit them. If you hit them center mass then there will be a loud pop and all of them will fly away. If you hit them with a super quiet gun in the head then they will stick around and wonder what happened to George. I’ve gotten 2 and 3 at a time like that before.

I shoot them from a second floor window. Critters never look up. If you have an elevated area to shoot from, try it. I alao made a new screen for the window using camouflage netting. It keeps the bugs out, but I can stick the muzzle through a slit and shoot.without being seen.

Way to go guys sparrows are my number # 1 target , Yes camouflaged and bait them, 50 LBS chicken scratch is about 10 bucks at Tractor supply
Goes a LONG was, Put a little at a time out,,, I have four bait stations around my yard , The song birds soon learn your not after them and will not spook, Sparrows are smart and they learn and adapt , You just have to adjust...
I would love to have some purple Martins in my yard, Its on my to do list..

Bushes, they love bushes. After christmas, put your tree in the back yard and they will start using it in a few days (or find one on the side of the road somewhere if you don't have one). Set yourself up a place to overlook it and get a good shot on them in the tree. When they are in the open they are a leery jumpy little bird.
