I can buy a Maverick but probably won’t

Wandered into a regular gun store with one new FX Maverick .22 hanging on the wall. Price seems fair and in line with what I’ve seen online. Owner let me shoot it and it was quiet and powerful but I have issues with it. I own Daystate Air Ranger .22, Theoben early model .25, RAW .22, and several others so I’m not new to this.

Talking to my preferred dealer AOA, they no longer carry FX due to issues. No additional FX magazines seem to be available anywhere. I hate the way the FX magazines need to be disassembled just to load, and what’s up with that micro “o” ring on the plastic cover? Looks easy to lose but not replace. The safety is in the wrong place, totally unsuitable for stalk hunting and quick shots. There is some negative talk on the boards but lots of fan boys.

So can someone convince me to pull the trigger? Or not.
 
I pre-ordered a Maverick on the day it was launched, but later cancelled as I wanted to see some more real experience with them 'in the wild' (beyond the FX paid internet shills) after some problems started to show up with the early guns. 

Regarding the way that new FX magazines need to be 'disassembled' to load, I have had no issue with that in comparison to how you had to load original FX magazines (load first pellet skirt-first from the front of the magazine). Still not a design which is, in my opinion, as good as the RAW magazines, but the design does lend itself to the use of speed loaders.

Regarding the external o-ring on FX mags to provide a little more secure fit in the breech, I initially had the same concerns as you. But in the end I have never lost one of those so my original concerns were unfounded.

Positioning of the safety is a very personal thing, and something which one would get used to over some time spent with the gun.

In the end I have recently purchased a couple of Impacts (standard and compact) as they were available and I'm buying now as I think prices will continue to rise, and availability will continue to decrease. The Impacts have their share of issues but so far so good with mine.

I also own multiple Daystates, RAWs and other FX's. They are all very different guns and they all seem to excel at different tasks. And I find that I enjoy them all. I continue to be rather surprised at the performance to weight ratio which FX has been able to achieve as compared to many of its competitors. But since I shoot mostly off the bench, higher weight can be more of a benefit than a detriment. 

Can't convince you to pull the trigger on the Maverick. I do think that many of your concerns with its design will ultimately prove unfounded. But if you are having to try and convince yourself to purchase a particular air rifle, it is likely not the one for you.

Very happy with mine. Not a single problem, well, except for the grip. Don't like the steep angle of the AR grip. My grip is now vertical.

Your last comment - Per your third sentence, seems that...you've ALREADY..."pulled the trigger" !

Question - why would the audience here care if you buy a Maverick or not ? I'm not convincing anyone of anything, up to YOU what you spend your money on.

Kinda seems like you went to the guys at AOA and decided to troll people about the Maverick. If you went to AOA in Gilbert there’s only one other airgun store in the valley ans that’s in Scottsdale and they don’t have a Maverick on their wall ... wonder where you went ...

What is it with you people. Of course no one can tell me what to do. It’s a rhetorical question. Look it up if you don’t understand. 
Trolling? Obviously you don’t know that AOA has a phone and even though I was 20th in the queue they called me back in response to my question about availability of FX magazines which I saw on their website (possibly you’ve heard of the internet). 

I was just looking for insight so thanks to those who gave thoughtful responses. You others should put me on ignore; that’s where I’ve put you.

I say buy it. Try it out for a few weeks and see if the things you pointed out you don't like still stand out or you got "used" to it. Worse case scenario you end up selling it. It would sell rather quickly since they are in demand. I'm sure there are alot of members here waiting to get the addiction we all have in check by buying just "one" more rifle 🤣. That one more quickly turns to 7 or 8 more but who's counting?

Don’t buy it!!! It’s horrible and you will get stuck with and lose money in it. Most horrible gun made ever! Will leak and have problems the moment you walk out of the door.

on a more serious note, you have your preference and sounds like it’s more traditional rifle is your style then stick with it. As many have said you can try it and sell if not happy with it, many people have been waiting since last year. The safety isn’t an issue for me because it’s not semi automatic so Don’t cock the gun till you are ready to shoot. I rarely ever use the safety switch even when it is next to my thumb. Only safe gun is a uncocked/unloaded gun. Also never had a problem with the mag and in fact they are so much better than the closed ones you have to load one by one. Then once you discovered speed loader the concern with extra mag and opening the mag goes away.

In my mind, without even have one in my hands to test it, the Maverick is a winner that born with and small defect of born in the space contemplated for the air tube.

Once FX solve that problem, if I were the CEO of FX I would make it my primary available gun and would put the rest of the line in production as a state of the art for special orders. But my bet would be in the Maverick.

But nobody has offer me yet to become the CEO of FX.

Thank you guys, I appreciate the responses. I’m just getting back into airgunning for a different shooting discipline (been doing clays) and it’s been easy in one regard that I’ve had the quality equipment for the last twenty years but bad in that every time I see the amazing new air guns I want it; thus the RAW I couldn’t pass up when I saw it in person. That’s what I’m going through with the Maverick now. At some point I need to focus on what I’ve already got before I expand, not really for the budget but more to enjoy the experience; thus the doubt about the Maverick.

My best thought for you is do you want to shoot pellets or slugs. If you want to shoot pellets buy a revere as you seem to like traditional rifles. If you want to shoot slugs buy the maverick. Mine i was able to get to shoot 27 gr slugs to an average 904 fps with a sd of 2 and dump a mag of them inside a 1.25 bull while sitting on my quad shooting off styx @ 50 yds. Took about 2 hrs

For a start AOA didn't "drop" FX, FX USA was set up and the distributorship removed without notice, AOA distribute DAYSTATE and it seems like a great partnership currently, it would probably be very difficult to distribute both of the top airgun brands anyways.

The magazine is what it is, it is effectively an evolution of the RAW magazine so if you like that horrid thing then I am suprised you don't really like the FX mag TBH.

There are plenty of options in the FX line-up, I have a MAVERICK and a couple of IMPACTS, but my favorite is definitely the more traditional lines of the CROWN.

As far as safety, never used one, never will, it's a mechanical device and it will fail at some point.

The MAVERICK is a hot item ATM so if you buy one and really dont like it, it wont be up for sale very long I suspect.

FX has lots of fans because it makes exciting products that are fun to shoot.
