Tuning HW97K tuning kit

Hello!



I recently purchased a Weihrauch HW97K blackline and in my research I have seen a LOT of evidence that while a great gun, the HW 97 can benefit from a new spring kit. The question is....which one? And which one is the best? I'm looking for something that at least delivers factory power(14-15 FPE) and that has a solid reputation. What are my options? Also, are there any airgun gunsmiths in PA that would be qualified to do this for me? Thanks in advance! ~Freddie

I have used a VMach and a Vortek kit in the HW97. Vortek gets my preferance.

Does it need a tune kit, though? I have the hw77 version and it’s not too twangy, or harsh… maybe I got lucky.

They're very good out of the box. Once tuned though they become disgustingly accurate. My .22 97K with the Vortek PG3 HO kit has managed sub moa a couple of times at 100yds. It's definitely worth concidering.

I always used Vortek kits in my springers and they are great much nicer shot cycle then standard. 97 is a great gun but like most HW spring guns a tune makes it more enjoyable to shoot in my opinion.

I have at least four comprehensive posts on this forum showing very detailed before and after Vortek kit installation accuracy results that will answer your questions. 


I am certain they are easy to find with a search. They make a huge difference when done properly

I have a HW97K with a Vortek kit and it is wonderful. I also just installed a Maccari spring kit in another HW97 and seems to have a very good shot cycle as well. Haven't shot it enough yet for a final verdict. Good luck!

I put in maccari old school kit in my hw97 including all the tar and lubes recommended. It still has a harsh shot cycle.

I have an RWS-54 tuned by John Thomas and it is really smooth. I am sending my HW-97 to John to tune and probably getting what kit he recommends installed.
