HW/Weihrauch HW97K disassembly preload?

So how’s the preload on a full power HW97K upon disassembly?

I have an air Venturi rail lock but hate using that thing (trust issues).

I would be subbing in a 12ftlb maccari spring so I’m thinking preload on reassembly would be minimal.

None needed for reassembly at 12 FPE but you should use a spring compressor on the full power spring. Ask AGR what can happen. He recently got stitches and probably should have had a surgery from just such an event.

Well let’s say if it’s a new gun factory you may want to use the rail press. This was the result of taking a 77 apart being lazy
My spring compressor was 2 feet away .. THE FACTORY GUIDE WAS THE METAL FORK TYPE THAT BIT ME GOOD.

The spring was 40 coils of thin wire but a lot of preload yet the gun was 13 to 14 ft lb gun.

USE YOUR PRESS.

Oh yeah ,it was through all layers of skin and the last silver skin. I could see the terminator tendons when moving fingers

That pic was the next day after I taped it shut to see if it was gonna get infected. 10 min after that pic I glued with strips
and kept it dry and clean.. I dodged a bullet missing nerves and arteries. Tendons. It bled like a stuck pig at first.
I had to open it up to look inside for damage and see if it pumped blood at heart beat ..

Oh yeah, i was always planning on using the rail lock if i did go through with disassembly. But i would only go through with it if the preload isn’t a ton

I had a similar experience with this, I watched too many videos of guys in Germany servicing their 5ftlb guns. I unthreaded the end cap of a HW77 and the dam thing about took my finger off.

Spring compressor is a must,

Nope, you set the compressor so that you back it off and the compressor holds the pressure, so as you unthread the cap you progressively back off the compressor. The end cap is never completely loose, and once the tension is off the spring you take the compressor off, there is no more compression on the spring, therefore the cap will not fly off,

This process is really not that difficult and once you do it the first time you will see it’s not that difficult, but you will also see it is very necessary.

You’re going to need to fashion an adapter to use the Rail Lock. The little skinny end on that thing isn’t going to hold the end cap securely.

You’re right about that. The skinny end with the plastic bit circles around as you screw/unscrew. That’s why I don’t really trust this thing.
