HW97K .22 is it sub-12

I'm fairly new to airguns. Last year I bought a blue laminate HW97k .22 from AOA. I only took it to a gun range and shot a maybe 10 pellets through it after shooting my powder burners. Haven't shot it since. I ordered a HW30S deluxe from AOA which just arrived so I'm excited to get into shooting regular with both finally. I remembered after seeing the little printout for my HW30S that AOA sends a printout with 5 shots through the chronograph. So I decided to run the numbers for the HW97K through their fpe calculator and it's showing sub-12 numbers. Sorry for a dumb question but does it break in as I shoot more? It shot Range Master Sovereigns 15.89g at 571, 575, 579, 582, 568. Thanks in advance for any help given.

That seems a little slow for the HW97K. Mine is in .20 cal so can't really compare numbers. Try doing a search for some posts from bdzjlz. He has done quite a few test reports pre and post tuning. Should be able to give you some comparison for what your rifle can do. This is a great rifle platform, I just love shooting the HW97's.

And to answer your question, Yes, the more you shoot it, the better it will shoot. There isn't a big break-in period, but the first 10 shots is not really a long enough time to really make any determinations. Go out and have some fun with it. Check it again after a tin of pellets, and that will give you a better handle on its performance.

That's definitely a little low. It would likely improve a bit with a mid weight pellet. I'd get a chronograph and run some 14.66 H&N FTTs through it. Unless you're in Denver, Albuquerque or at some other high elevation the gun should make 15-16 fpe My experience has been that my Weihrauchs make less power with heavy for caliber pellets. Ymmv but something to keep in mind. Get it chrono'd and let us know.

Good luck
