HW97K 177 cal insight

To HW97K 177 cal owners. My 97. Purchased new Jan of 2022 Stamped USA on barrel I have shot around 6 thousand plus pellets through t it . Never been apart, Has always been an excellent shooter Still is an excellent shooter. No spring noise no vibration , cocks smooth . Never ran it across chrony unit March this year Shooting AA 8.44 827fps around 12.82 ft with a 6 fps spread Over 5 shots This morning did it again. Same pellet 810 fps with a 8 fps spread. An 12.3 ft Did the tissue test on breach that’s ok. Factory specs are up to 950 fps Has any one ran their new HW97 across chrony ? If so what results did you have? Could mine have been a 12ft gun instead of 14 ft

Look up test reviews . Here your on about right ballpark
JSB Exact Diabalo 8.44 Grain822.77 FPS12.68 Ft/Lbs

Of course anythin can cause a +/- in fps with any gun so . At least your not way off a mark .

Oops

Hi Frogy!
My experience with those type of HW guns:

- HW77, 22 cal., new: 14-15 fpe
- HW97, 177cal., new: 12-13 fpe

The 22 cal. version should give around 10-20% more power, so the above numbers are OK (also there's a myth of the 77 being more powerful that the 97).

After about 3.000 pellets, my HW77 (which previously used to shoot great) started to shoot a little bit erratic. I mean erratic in group size and POI. Chronied it, and it was doing about 10-11 fpe. Opened it, and found the mainspring was broken.

So, all in all, your HW97 177 cal., with 6.000 pellets shot through it, and doing 13 fpe, sounds to be perfectly healthy for me.

Cheers.

Thank you for posting this .

Listen for a crunch or a click sound while cocking it. Also does the cocking arm hang down much when you release it? There's a possibility the spring broke. It's pretty common. That and burnt piston seals. Your ES is pretty good for a burnt seal. Although a ten shot sample would be more conclusive. I'm thinking the spring is broke. It should be 14 - 15 fpe.

Your gun is right there with mine. My HW97k .177 was shooting about 850-870 fps with mid weight pellets as far as I remember. Jsb’s were faster than H&N. I have since put in a 12 fpe kit and don’t have the old data. It was a pain to cock after 50 shots so I went with lower power and enjoy shooting it more. Accuracy is the same and usable trajectory for me is unchanged as I only shoot 35-40 yards maximum.
