HW/Weihrauch HW95-I like It Like That

I bought a pre-owned HW95 walnut in .177 cal from AOA. When it came in, it looked brand new and not a mark on it. AOA test sheet showed velocity of 888 fps with JSB 8.4 gr pellets. Boy, was it twangy. I replaced the innards with a Vortek PG4 HO kit and before in put it in, I cut one coil off the spring figuring it would make it a little smoother. Velocity then jumped to 927 fps. The twang was gone but the shot cycle was really snappy. Accuracy improved too, but I kept getting a flyer every 10 or 15 shots. Still not satisfied, I replaced the HO spring with a 12 fpe spring from Tom at Vortek. Now, it's shooting 8.4 AA pellets at 840 fps for 13.2 fpe and 762 fps with JSB 10.3 gr at 13.0 fpe. The shot cycle is much smoother and the cocking effort is just right for my 85 year old carcass. I guess the power level is about what an HW50 is. I really like it here. Accuracy is top notch and I've decided this rifle is a keeper.

Same everything here, except I cut 2.5 or so coils off the spring.
FTT @ 880 with excellent accuracy.

I also have the 12 fpe kit, makes Avery strong 13 fpe. Very smooth.

The HW 95 is a wonderful rifle.

@jps2486 - That is a great idea. I have a .177 HW95 at 16 fpe with the Vortek kit and it is a little jumpier than I like. I only have one tin of pellets through it, I was hoping it would calm down on its own. I might cut another coil off now.

That rifle is sealing great making that kind of power.

I cut half a coil at a time, or there about.

At roughly 2.5 it smoothed out nicely and ended up exactly where I thought I wanted it to be, FTT @ 880 fps. Before it was 900ish
The difference was dramatit to me.

My 95 was a mess, so I sent it back under warranty and Shane at AoA, cleaned polished and lubed it into a smooth operator, with the original equipment.
It’s a .20 cal straight shooter.

Mine should have went back the first day, but I didn’t know any better.

I am glad I never sent it back. It was a great way for me to learn.

I’ve got mine tuned almost exactly the same . Shooting 8.44 JSB’s at 840 FPS. I’m using the factory spring with custom guides. Just a solid thud, no twang. Plenty of power for a .177 springer while still pleasant to shoot.
