HW95- .177 or .22 and why?

IMHO this is an excellent combo for an air rifle. Hawke 4-16 x 44 mm, IR, SF scope on a HW95L in .22 caliber shooting H&N FTT 14.66 gr pellets. Very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot from the back deck for my wife & I.

Well hell. I just ordered the R9 in .22 off straight shooters because I could not find an HW95 or R9 in .22 in stock anywhere else. Ordered a pellet sampler to go with it. And now I come back and everyone is dogging it in .22!! Oh man!

I did get a deal. $399, free shipping.

You made the right choice! I have an R9 Goldfinger with the original Bushnell scope in 20 and it is a fantastic gun, but I would rather have a 22 - the swept volume of the gun can take full advantage of the heavier pellet choices and the resistance will make it a smooth shooter - congratulations!

Can't speak for the .177 as it's the caliber I don't have, but out to the 30 yards or so I do have for shooting, my HW95 .22 will do nickel sized groups with both H&N FTT 5.54 head size pellets and the Air Arms Falcons and if I'm having a very good day, it will shoot dime sized groups. Also works very well for squirrel whacking.

Also have a Beeman R9 .20 that's just as good with both the H&N and JSB pellets for both targets and pests.

While your mileage may end up varying, don't think you'll regret an HW95/R9 in .22 and you can always go out and get a .177 to keep it company later :)

Standard HW95 .22 on top, Beeman R9 .20 on the bottom.
