Hw80 vs Hw95

I’m doing some research for my next purchase. I’m at least a couple months out and I like to over think stuff. I’ve read and watched a lot about beeman r9’s lately and it seems like everyone loves them. I’m considering a .20 or .22 caliber in the r9 or hw95. I’ve always wanted an hw80 because it’s the old workhorse and has a ton of history. I’m thinking about .20 .22 or .25 in the hw80. Either of these guns would be used mainly for plinking, target practice, and occasional hunting up to groundhog sized game. I currently do not own a .20 or .25

HW95 for me. They balance better and have a better shot cycle than the 80. The 95 will be easier to shoot accurately. Lighter piston, less mass moving around, and less spring required to push it.

If I'm going to have the weight of the 80, I'd get a 77k or 97k. They are easier to shoot accurately than either above.

Personally id get it in .177 or .20. Every .22 Weihrauch barrel I've had was garbage, from 1985 to 2013. The bores are too big and the chokes are too tight.

Get a .177 HW95 and drop in a tune kit and you'll be ready to go for anything you want to do.

I don’t have any experience with the 80, but I just got a .177 Field Pro model 95 with a Vortek Sub 12fpe spring in it & I like it a lot. Very smooth shot cycle & very accurate. I don’t think it’s available in .20 though.

I have an HW95 Field Pro in 22. I've had it for about 3 years and couldn't be happier. No problems with the barrel. Accuracy has been outstanding. I've shot mostly JSB 15.89gr and Crosman Premier 14.3gr. At 25 yrds I get nice little clusters. I would vouch for the HW 95. Sorry to hear some of you have had bad luck with the 22s. Maybe I just got lucky.

I have never owned or handled the HW 80 but I see on the spec sheet that they are heavier and only a little more powerful than the 95. Let us know what you decide.

Fully agree. The hw80 is the only Weihrauch that I could not bond with and eventually sold. That big 30mm compression chamber makes for a harsh shot cycle. The hw95 is a much better platform IMHO.
