Is there any comparison between the Diana48 and the HW77? I’m looking purely as an open sights rifle, I got a TX200 with a scope so I’m good in that department.

no comparison . HW77 all the way OR another TX200 fitted with sights and any gunsmith can do that does not have to be Air gunsmith

I can't help with a comparison as I'm not familiar with the Diana. I can tell you that several people have had a hard time using the irons on the new Hw77s. Weihrauch for some reason raised the comb so much on the new 77 stocks that it makes using the irons very difficult. I don't know why they did this when they offer the same gun (Hw97) in a scope only version.
Don't be surprised if you have to take a belt sander to the 77s comb. As harsh as that sounds, its a viable option for a laminate stock. You'd only need to clear coat the sanded down comb to match the rest of the stock. Not practical on a beech stock that you'd have to refinish the entire stock.

Hard to find guys shooting open sight without finding they not and using a peep..lol ( that's add on optic). no thats not open sighted.
Anyway heres a guy sermes to do fine.
Personly the 77 would seem to fit my sholder nice if i had one.

The Diana 48 is more powerful than the HW77. It will therefore be harder to shoot in factory form. The side lever on the 48 takes a bit getting used to. You have to be careful when closing the breech, ensure that you press the bear trap release otherwise you can damage the lever linkage. Due to its power the Diana destroys scopes quicker.
That said, there are many people that like the 48 over the HW77. It’s like a Panzer vs a Sherman comparison

I have owned the HW77 and I have shot the 48/52. The Rws 48 should be a really good rifle but I did not find that to be the case. I much prefer the HW77. You didn't say what caliber you wanted or what you are planning on using it for. My guns are all for silhouette or Field Target or 10 meter and are all .177. If you however are considering going to a larger caliber (.22) then i would certainly consider the 48. It might be a better rifle in that caliber. They are big heavy and powerful.

Bought a D48 as my first new pellet gun in 40 or so years, and had my RWS/Diana 35 as a reference.
Wrong move. Nothing close to the quality of my old 35. POS in fact. Lots wrong that I corrected… then it broke in six months.
No more spring guns for me.

The 48 is 20ft lbs, a new 77 will be about 13 or 14 ft lbs. Get the 77 if you are planning on .177, only get the 48 if you need a .22.

The Diana 48 / 52 in stock form leaves much to be desired; somewhat hard to shoot. I replaced the internals with the Vortek HO kit and the gun came to life!! The iron sights are excellent. I’m getting 896 fps with the JSBs 10.3s and right under 1000 fps with the 8.44s. The gun works best with the heavier pellet and it’s super easy to shoot after the installation of the Vortek kit. My groups are ridiculously small; 1/4” at 30 yards using a scope. I’m going to try 100 yds this weekend. LOVE this gun AFTER the Vortek kit install !!

Yes, indeed, different; My 52,in .22, powerful,big and accurate hunter,got to have a sling,a 10-20 degree one piece scope mount and a solid scope.
For everyday shooting,and plinking the 77 is easier to live with.
Long-range accuracy the 48-52 is great,like the above poster states the 48 can be a sleeper......still not for small folks.

to me the 48 is a bench gun , heavy , a rest is needed . also cocking it limits the amount you shoot . very tiring .

Respectfully disagree on the weight of the D48, more so if you aren’t going to add a scope. Lovely rifle but a Vortek kit is a must.

That looks like a 52 you’re holding and not a 48. They’re the same mechanically but the 52 stock is longer and you have a longer LOP so they feel and shoot differently.

Check with Tom at Vortek, he’s a super nice guy and will help you there. I chose the High Output version and it’s giving me great accuracy and speed with my .177 - 896 fps with the JSBs 10.3 gr.
