HW50s general question

If you remove the front globe sight you can put on a muzzle brake. Where are these available from? Everywhere I've seen anything about them they are either all sold out or they no longer make or stock them. So any ideas on that?

Also after you remove the front globe sight they say you "may" have to file or grind down on the dovetail to get a muzzle brake to fit. Why do you have to do that? Are they raised up a lot from the barrel? Is it possible to get a muzzle brake on without having to do any mods to the barrel? I think this gun is beautiful and really not looking to start grinding and filing on it if you know what I mean.

Delrin Looks like the Way to go. That dovetail on the HW 50 is crimped on there By a machine.I don’t know why they didn’t use a dovetail cutter to put it on there but from everything I have read, it is Crimped on. And that raises material that would have to be filed off if you put a metal one on.I’m leaving mine just the way it is.

Hello, Call Mike at TKO 22 he can probably make a brake out of derlin you can just tap on without filing down the front groves. Hope this helps Eric

Yes you will have to file the grooves down to fit a proper fitting muzzle brake. Do it carefully and a little cold blue and it will look unnoticeable and the factory sight will still fit. 

The HW55s and maybe some of the other earlier HWs had the dovetails machined in, flush. I assume they stopped due to extra cost and time.

Good ideas from all. But like I said before, I'm not really keen on filing on a nice shiny airgun. Delrin and putting it on with a hammer sounds like a good idea. Dumb thing is I didn't even think of that and my father-in-law has a lathe so I may get him to whip me one up.

I make some with a shim like the old Beeman brakes had so you don't have to worry about the dovetail crimp. The shim slides on past the crimp NP.. Then the set screw goes onto the shim preventing the set screw from damaging the barrel.. 

I've also made sleek steel ones painted with a tough black epoxy paint. Held on with blue locktite. This one adds zero length to the already long FWB 124 barrel.
