HW35E no safety catch??

I have just bought myself a used 1975 HW35E that is in a great condition for its age. I was somehow surprised to notice that the gun has not got a safety catch and indeed had ever had one. Has anyone else came across this situation?. Thank you

Oldies like that one often had no safeties. My C-1 carbine and Diana 25 are the same.

You were expected to cock it immediately before shooting. I’d carry it with a pellet loaded, while hunting, and not cock it until I was close to game.

You can de-cock that gun if needed by breaking the barrel, holding the barrel firmly. pulling the trigger and easing the barrel back.

Very few European springers had safeties in the old days - after all, a single-shot mechanism that can be un-cocked is really pretty safe already when you think about it.

The 35 has been made since the early 1950’s. It was the first HW model to get a safety, in the late 70’s IIRC. The first safely was a little different, too, it had a button on the left side but it did not pass all the way through the receiver. A few years later the 35 got the safety that they are still using, i.e., with the red indicator on the right side.
