I believe the older Weihrauchs were pressed in and maybe pinned. The newer Weihrauchs have what people call the star retaining nut that's visible outside the breech seal. I'm not sure if this is indeed a nut and what you'd need to do to remove it. Definitely looks proprietary. I can tell you that even then the newer barrels are still knurled and pressed in.

25 caliber Weihrauchs use a different breech seal than the rest of the line.

The liner seems like a good solution. I'm not sure about a couple of things. First, 25 is a pretty big hole by itself, now if you bore a 15mm barrel large enough for the liner will you have enough meat left where it enters the breech. The barrel may bend or buckle when cocking the rifle.

The other thing to consider is what to do about the breech seal. This can probably be solved with a McMaster Carr catalog or leather and a punch kit.

I believe the easiest solution is probably fitting a 25 caliber Hw95/80k barrel assembly to the Hw50. It's not a direct fit because the breech is longer. You'll have to relocate the cocking arm pin further back and mill out the cock arm relief longer.

I'm thinking that just wasting the old barrel by drilling it out is the most efficient way of doing it... no guess work involved, just in and out. If necessary I can just resize the block with a drill press afterwards.

At 40yds you need a different gun no doubt about it. What I'm talking about is a very specific use kind of thing. I have a 30S on the way that someone was generous enough to give me a good deal on. Once its here I'll start dealing with how to remove the barrel and go from there. Worse case scenario is it will be a relatively low budget yet fun learning experience to get me through the winter months.

Following this thread. I have been wanting an HW50 in 22 to shoot the 25 grain JSB Ultra Shocks. But the option of drilling out the barrel for a 25 liner is intriguing. I'm definitely a fan of the heavy/slow approach to pesting.
