HW scope recommendations

I don't think 3-9X is too high of magnification at all for the R7/HW30. If it can do 1/4" groups at 20 meters it can definitely used that 9X.
This is kinda subjective. My 2-7 scoped HW30s will shoot 1/4" groups at 20 meters with no problem. I shoot beer cans at 100 yards with it as well. Usually at 6x.

I also shoot two inch spinners at 50 yards with my HW30 with unmagnified peep sights.

Meanwhile there's people here that insist a 16x or 24x is appropriate for ten meters.

There's different views on all of this. I don't think there's a right or wrong way. My personal preference is to use the lightest most reliable option to maintain nice handling. That's just me.

10 dimes challenge with theR7/Hawke 3-9x40. Only had 45 or so shots through it between chrony and sight in when I gave it a try:

I have several Air Max’s and more than a dozen Elements. They’re both guaranteed for springers. The Elements have no dust caps to take off, bit of a nuisance. Also when turning the turrets on the Air Max, you almost have the be a qualified safe cracker to feel or hear the clicks, where the Element is way more pronounced. I like the optics for both.‘The Element had 2 different lens covers. And 2” sun shade.
Close, but I like the Element between the two. Crow

I'm just happy to hear that someone besides me owns a .22 cal HW30s. They have no recoil so you can put whatever scope you like on it. I have some scope breaking springers but this is not one of them. If someone tells you differently they obviously don't own a 30s. BTW those guns are freaking amazing, I shoot 1" spinners at 32 yards with mine.
I also have one, it's a fantastic shooter. I put a Williams peep on my .22 the .177 wears a scope.

The 2-7 Airmax is on sale at DVOR for $151. That's about $50 off normal. Still twice as much as the $77 Vantage. The Vantage IR is a good middle ground at $114. All these prices are very good.
The Airmax is tough on the eyes unless you get the IR, the etched reticle is really hard to see. I prefer my Vantage's over my Airmax.

Agreed. The Airmax reticle is very fine and can be difficult to pick out in dark or busy backgrounds. I prefer the Vantage for hunting the woods and the Airmax for target work. The Vantage IR reticle is a real nice compromise. If it's too thin, just light it up.
