17 foot pounds looks about right for the alloy predator pellet. The alloy pellets seem to exit with a bit more kinetic energy, maybe due to lower barrel friction. Or maybe less energy is consumed in skirt deformation.Who knows...

I noticed the same effect with my stock .22 HW95 and the FTT Green 9.65 grain. The 15 -ish grain lead pellets were around 15+ foot pounds, but the Green was about 17 foot pounds. The tradeoff is the alloy pellet doesn't carry that energy downrange as well. But if cost was no object, I would probably stick with the alloy pellets.

In .25 I have the HW95L, HW80, and .25 Theoben Eliminator.

The Eliminator gets 705 fps with HN FTTs in the green HN cans.

The HW95L .25 gets 595 fps with the same pellet, HN FTT.

The HW80 .25 gets 49 fps MORE to almost reach 650 or so fps and THAT difference from the HW95 to the HW80 justifies having BOTH rifles for ALL uses at ANY range you should be "calculating" with a hollow pellet of ANY caliber. Once .25 is there all other springer calibers become tiny things that penetrate targets pretty well; but for every use a pellet should be shot downrange close or far you can do it with EITHER the HW95L or HW80.

Just get both to test accuracy and use the heavier gun for things really "out there" in the field range.

There isn't or wasn't a .25 springer that did not impress me.

My first .25 springer was the outdated underlever Eclipse by the England Webley LTD original company. The speed of that pellet was the lowest velocity of my already mentioned other .25's, but that underlever always shot the target when I figured the range and adjusted fire to do so.

The other thing is it was also more reliable to keep a group of pellets clear out to 30 yards despite the "lowest" springer velocity at the time.

All .25s I've had and now have never failed to impress me in my highest criticism of justification for sending more than twice the lead downrange to actually smash to pieces what it lands into.

The .22's ? Got those too, but the smasher is easily the .25 and even if is is going slower than the .22 it will end up being more accurate.

I do have the HW80 .22 Long Range Hunter to compare my HW95L .25 and the more reliable at any range to 35 yards is easily the HW95L .25.

If there is a slower springer in .25 like the HW35E or HW50S today (not made!) our SLOWEST is like my HW95L .25 with HN Field Target Trophies:

595 fps average muzzle velocity as the printout read.

This rifle is easily the lightest (bore is .25 so LESS metal) HW95! Same with the HW80: in .25 it is the LIGHTEST rifle because the bore means LESS metal in the BARREL.
