Seems like if it's just for target shooting the hw30s is preferred. I got the hw50s as I do some backyard squirrel hunting and barnyard pest control. Domt know much about the 85 but seems like the other 2 I mention get more recommendations
If by backyard shooting you mean plinking or target practice, the HW30 as suggested is a great choice. For hunting anything bigger than chipmunks or birds go for the other guns, HW50, HW95 are probably good ones to research and consider.
Got my hw50s above from pyramidair about 2 weeks ago. Already taken 2 squirrel in my yard with the open sights. Surprisingly they were dead on at 10 yards out the box
I know it’s an old thread. I have both and like both. You can’t beat a 50 with a club. But what I really like about the 85 is the ease of jacking it. I’m thinking (hoping) it’s a rifle I’ll be able to handle at an older age. Crow Wrote 5 hours ago, forgot to send
I don’t have a hw 50 . so I can’t speak for it. But I do have an HW85/R 10 in .20. It’s pretty dam accurate and powerful. I bought it in 1987 I think… I polished it up and tuned it with a Vortek kit. It’s pushing JSB 13.73 at 758 and H&N 11.42 at 856. it shoots 1/2” groups at 32 yards. It’s just as accurate as my tx200, and HW97’s I have3 hw30 as well in 2 in 177 and 1 in 20. Fun little guns.
